Seeing's Believing
''Seeing's Believing'' is a 1922 American silent comedy film directed by Harry Beaumont and starring Viola Dana, Allan Forrest, and Gertrude Astor.Parish & Pitts p. 22. Plot As described in a film magazine, Diana Webster (Dana), a willful young woman with plenty of money, and Jimmy Harrison (McCullough), her Aunt Sue's (Astor) fiancé, are forced to stay all night in a country hotel because of a storm. Getting a single room, they pretend they are married to satisfy the concerns of the hotel manager. Jimmy sleeps on a cot in the hall, but hotel guest Bruce Terring (Forrest) does not know this. Later, Bruce meets Diana at her home where he is a guest, and his scandalous interpretation of her escapade infuriates the young woman. She decides to teach him a lesson and show him that "seeing is not always believing" by placing him in a similar unusual position. She hires an actor and his wife to frame a badger game on Bruce. Harry Beaumont
Harry Beaumont (10 February 1888 – 22 December 1966) was an American film director, actor, and screenwriter. He worked for a variety of production companies including 20th Century Fox, Fox, Goldwyn Pictures Corporation, Goldwyn, Metro Pictures Corporation, Metro, Warner Brothers, and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Career Beaumont's greatest successes were during the silent film era, when he directed films including John Barrymore's ''Beau Brummel (1924 film), Beau Brummel'' (1924) and the silent youth movie ''Our Dancing Daughters'' (1928), featuring Joan Crawford. He then directed MGM's first talkie musical, ''The Broadway Melody'' (1929). The latter film won the Academy Award for Best Picture, Best Picture Academy Award that year, and Beaumont was nominated for Academy Award for Best Director, Best Director. Harold Goodwin (American Actor)
Harold Goodwin (December 1, 1902 – July 12, 1987) was an American actor who performed in over 225 films. Biography Goodwin began his film career at age 12. Goodwin's first starring role came in ''Oliver Twist, Jr.'' (1921). He also appeared as Jeff Brown in the 1927 Buster Keaton comedy ''College''. He followed up with a role in another Keaton film ''The Cameraman'' in 1928, opposite Keaton and actress Marceline Day. Goodwin worked steadily through the silent film era and transitioned into the talkie era as a character actor, often as a "tough guy" because of his athletic stature. He was seen in the role of Detering in the 1930 Lewis Milestone-directed World War I drama ''All Quiet on the Western Front''. His subsequent film roles were mostly small and uncredited. In his later years Goodwin mainly acted in the Western film genre and often worked as a stuntman for film studios. Josephine Boneparte Crowell (January 11, 1859 – July 27, 1932) was a Canadian film actress of the silent era. She appeared in more than 90 films between 1912 and 1929. Biography Crowell was born in Nova Scotia. Crowell debuted in the theater in 1879, and she appeared on Broadway as Mrs. Pitcher in ''Captain Mollhy'' (1902). She began her film acting career in the 1912 film ''The School Teacher and the Waif''. By 1919, she had appeared in 50 films, many of which were film shorts. Her notable film appearances during this period were in the early films of D.W.
