Seeds (Hey Rosetta! Album)
''Seeds'' is the third studio album by Canadian indie rock band Hey Rosetta!. It was released on February 15, 2011 through Sonic Records and was produced by Tony Doogan. Lead singer Tim Baker stated in an interview that the album name, as well as the title track, is about "...the idea is that we are seeds, traveling from town to town, blowing around, settling down here and there, trying to make something for people", and that "the songs are seeds ... they’re these little things –- four and five minute things — but they have the ability to grow in your brain and be far more meaningful than just what they are." Hey Rosetta!
Hey Rosetta! is a Canadian seven-piece indie rock band from St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador and led by singer/songwriter Tim Baker. Known for their energized live shows, the band created a large, layered sound by incorporating piano, violin, cello, and brass into the traditional four-piece rock setup. On October 13, 2017, the group announced via a lengthy Facebook post that they would be taking an indefinite hiatus. History The origin of the band's name is inspired from the Rosetta Stone which was a stele written in three languages: Ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphs, Demotic and Ancient Greek. Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand from the 1970s to the 1980s. Originally used to describe independent record labels, the term became associated with the music they produced and was initially used interchangeably with alternative rock or "Pop rock, guitar pop rock". One of the primary scenes of the movement was Dunedin, where Dunedin sound, a cultural scene based around a convergence of noise pop and jangle became popular among the city's University of Otago, large student population. ''The Scope'' was a free English language alternative newsweekly based in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. First published on July 6, 2006, the newspaper started as a weekly publication, printing 6,000 copies. In fall of 2006 they moved to a bi-weekly print schedule, and remained that way until 2010. As of June 2010, ''The Scope'' switched to a monthly print schedule to reduce printing and distribution costs, and to focus on online-only content. In November 2013 they announced that the last edition would be in December 2013, ending publication after 7 years. Each month 23,000 copies were distributed across the St. John's metropolitan area (including Torbay, Mount Pearl, CBS, Paradise, and Portugal Cove-St. Philips). Tim Baker is a Canadian singer-songwriter from St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador.
