Sedum Multiceps
''Sedum multiceps'', also known as miniature/pygmy Joshua tree, is a perennial, deciduous species of ''Sedum'' from the succulent plant family Crassulaceae, native to Algeria. The plant is nicknamed for its glaucous leaves that grow in clusters, resembling ''Yucca brevifolia''. It was named officially as a distinct species in 1862. Description ''Sedum multiceps'' has a many-branched, shrubby habit, and consists of grayish-green leaves growing at the tips of its branches. It grows shallow roots and mats of short woody stems which spread rapidly across large areas, and sprouts bright yellow, star-shaped flowers in late summer. Cultivation ''Sedum multiceps'' is cultivated as an ornamental plant, typically for planting in containers or in gardens as groundcover. It needs very little attention, and tolerates all but the most loamy soil. Ernest Saint-Charles Cosson
Ernest Saint-Charles Cosson (22 July 1819 – 31 December 1889) was a French botanist born in Paris. Cosson is known for his botanical research in North Africa, and during his career he participated in eight trips to Algeria. In several of these he was accompanied by Henri-René Le Tourneux de la Perraudière (1831-1861), whom he honoured in the naming of several species and genera (e.g., ''Perralderia'', ''Galium perralderii''). In 1863 he was elected president of the ''Société botanique de France'', and from 1873 to 1889, he was a member of the ''Académie des sciences''. In 1882 Jules Ferry, as Minister of Public Instruction, decided to create a mission to explore the Regency of Tunisia. The expedition was headed by Cosson and included the botanist Napoléon Doumet-Adanson and other naturalists. ''Yucca brevifolia'' is a plant species belonging to the genus ''Yucca''. It is tree-like in habit, which is reflected in its common names: Joshua tree, yucca palm, tree yucca, and palm tree yucca. This monocotyledonous tree is native to the arid Southwestern United States, specifically California, Arizona, Utah, and Nevada, and to northwestern Mexico It is confined mostly to the Mojave Desert between elevation. It thrives in the open grasslands of Queen Valley and Lost Horse Valley in Joshua Tree National Park. Michel Charles Durieu de Maisonneuve (7 December 1796 – 20 February 1878) was a French soldier and botanist who was a native of Saint-Eutrope-de-Born in the department of Lot-et-Garonne. He studied at École Militaire de Brienne, and later at the military school of Saint-Cyr, where he received the rank of sub-lieutenant. He entered military service in 1813, and would be associated with the French army until 1848.
