Secrets (Grinspoon Song)
"Secrets" was the second single by Grinspoon which was released from their second studio album '' Easy''. It was released in January 2000 on the Grudge label (the Australian imprint of Universal Records), reaching No. 83 on the Australian Singles Chart and polling at No. 73 on Triple J's Hottest 100 for 2000. The song is played in dropped B tuning and is counted by fans as their best song from the ''Easy'' album. Grinspoon are an Australian Rock music, rock band from Lismore, New South Wales, formed in 1995 and fronted by Phil Jamieson on vocals and guitar with Pat Davern on guitar, Joe Hansen on bass guitar and Kristian Hopes on drums. Also in 1995, Grinspoon won the Triple J-sponsored Unearthed (talent contest), Unearthed competition for Lismore, with their post-grunge song "Grinspoon (EP), Sickfest". The name "Grinspoon" was taken from Lester Grinspoon, Dr. Lester Grinspoon, an associate professor emeritus of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, who supported marijuana for medical use. The Grinspoon sound changed to more mainstream rock at the release of the 2002 album, ''New Detention'', gaining fans and peaking at No. 2 on the ARIA Charts, ARIA Albums Charts; similarly 2007's ''Alibis & Other Lies'' also reached No. 2. The ARIA Charts are the main Australian music sales charts, issued weekly by the Australian Recording Industry Association. Triple J (stylised in all lowercase) is a government-funded, national Australian Radio in Australia, radio station intended to appeal to listeners of alternative music, which began broadcasting in January 1975. The station also places a greater emphasis on broadcasting music of Australia, Australian content compared to commercial stations. Triple J is a division of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. The 2000 Triple J Hottest 100, announced in January 2001, was the eighth such countdown of the most popular songs of the year, according to listeners of the Australian radio station Triple J. As in previous years, a CD featuring 37 (not necessarily the top 37) songs was released. The CD featured Queens of the Stone Age's song "Feel Good Hit of the Summer" despite it not making the top 100, hinting that it may have placed at No. 101. Full list 40 of the 100 songs were by Australian artists (marked with a green background). Trivia Scoring songs at #1 and #3, Powderfinger set the current record for best performing pair of songs (ranked by adding their positions). This record was to be equaled by Kings of Leon in 2008. Grudge Records
Grudge Records was the Australian record label for Universal Music Australia that mostly promoted Australian rock artists, such as Grinspoon, Skunkhour, and Powderfinger. Other artists include H-Block 101 and Sean Ikin. Grudgefest Grudgefest was a free all ages, non-alcohol event held at Prince Alfred Park in Sydney on 27 September 1997 and organised by Universal Music Australia and Grudge Records. Acts included Bush, Veruca Salt, Bloodhound Gang and Grinspoon. Approximately 20,000 people attended with all money raised at the concert going to the Sydney City Mission to assist homeless people in Australia. Easy (Grinspoon Album)
Easy is the second studio album released by the Australian rock band Grinspoon. It was released on 1 November 1999, debuting at No. 4 on the Australian album charts and remaining in the top 50 for 13 weeks. It eventually achieved platinum sales in Australia. Work on the album began in August 1999 with the producer Jonathan Burnside (Nirvana, Melvins, Depeche Mode, Meat Beat Manifesto). The album was recorded in Sydney and mixed in Melbourne. The initial release of the album included a bonus disc containing eleven live tracks from the band's New Year's Eve performance at the 1998 Falls Festival.
