Secretary's Career Achievement Award
The Secretary’s Career Achievement Award is an award of the United States Department of State. It is presented to retiring career employees in the Department who, over a period of 25 years or more, of U.S. Government and/or military service, have performed with dedication and distinction. The award consists of a gold medal set and a certificate signed by the Secretary. While the Foreign Affairs Manual still stipulates award of a medal set, per a 2007 ALDAC (a cable intended for distribution to all diplomatic and consular posts), medals are no longer issued. Nominating and approval procedures There is no nomination procedure. Expeditionary Service Award
The Expeditionary Service Award is an award of the United States Department of State. It is presented to employees in the Department who serve in designated field locations. Currently, the following locations have been designated expeditionary by the Director General of the Foreign Service: *Iraq *Afghanistan The award consists of a certificate signed by the Secretary and a lapel pin. There is no cash award associated with recognition. Nominating and Approval Procedures The Assistant Secretary of a regional bureau may seek approval to present the Expeditionary Service Award to State Department employees who meet the award's criteria of a year’s assignment with successful service, to arduous and difficult field locations. The regional bureau will identify eligible field locations where State Department employees work and live in exceptionally difficult circumstances. John Jacob Rogers Award
The John Jacob Rogers Award is an obsolete award of the United States Department of State. It has since been replaced with the Secretary’s Career Achievement Award. It was presented to retiring career employees in the Department who, over a period of 25 years or more, of U.S. government or military service, performed with dedication and distinction. The award consisted of a silver medal set and a certificate signed by the secretary. It was named for Congressman John Jacob Rogers, for whom the Rogers Act of 1924 is named. The Rogers Act consolidated the diplomatic and consular officers into one diplomatic corps, which is now the US Foreign Service.
