Second Samurai
''Second Samurai'' is a video game released for the Amiga in 1993. It is the sequel to the 1991 game '' First Samurai''. A Mega Drive version was later released in 1994 which features different graphics, sound and level design to the Amiga version. Gameplay The game includes prehistoric and futuristic levels as well as feudal Japan as in ''First Samurai''. Contact with enemies or falling off the screen (lives are not lost automatically) subtracts one point from the life bar. In the Mega Drive/Genesis version of the game, the Demon King from the first game taunts the player on a black screen when they lose a life with sayings such as "Give up mortal!" and "Going Down!" until the last life is lost. Development Following the success of ''First Samurai'', Mev Dinc was interested in developing 'a sequel to end all sequels'. The concept of having 2 samurai to choose from was established early on. Mevlüt Dinç (born May 1957), better known as Mev Dinc, is a Turkish-British video game designer. Born and raised in Turkey, he moved to England in 1979 while finishing his studies, intending to pursue a master's degree there. Unable to pay the high tuition fees for international students, Dinc worked in a cable factory in Southampton, where a colleague introduced him to video games and got him a ZX Spectrum when it was released in 1982. Dinc taught himself to program via magazines and began working in the video game industry in 1983, starting with assisting on the Commodore 64 conversion of ''Ant Attack'', released in 1984. After his first original game, ''Gerry the Germ Goes Body Poppin''', in 1985, he worked with Electric Dreams Software on another original game, ''Prodigy'', the Amstrad CPC port of ''Enduro Racer'', and various tie-ins with films and TV series. Amiga Power
''Amiga Power'' (''AP'') was a monthly magazine about Amiga video games. It was published in the United Kingdom by Future plc, and ran for 65 issues, from May 1991 to September 1996. Philosophy ''Amiga Power'' had several principles which comprised its philosophy regarding games. Like almost all Amiga magazines of the time, they marked games according to a percentage scale. However, ''Amiga Power'' firmly believed that the full range of this scale should be used when reviewing games. A game of average quality rated on this scale would therefore be awarded 50%. Stuart Campbell offered some rationale for this in his review of '' Kick Off '96'' in the final issue of the magazine: Amiga magazines at the time tended to give "average" games marks of around 70%, and rarely gave scores below 50%. Platformers
A platform game (often simplified as platformer and sometimes called a jump 'n' run game) is a sub-genre of action video games in which the core objective is to move the player character between points in an environment. Platform games are characterized by levels that consist of uneven terrain and suspended platforms of varying height that require jumping and climbing to traverse. Other acrobatic maneuvers may factor into the gameplay, such as swinging from vines or grappling hooks, jumping off walls, air dashing, gliding through the air, being shot from cannons, or bouncing from springboards or trampolines. Games where jumping is automated completely, such as 3D games in ''The Legend of Zelda'' series, fall outside of the genre.
