Second Division Men (Icelandic Basketball)
2. deild karla ( en, Men's 2. Division) or D2 is the third tier basketball competition among clubs in Iceland. It is organized by the Icelandic Basketball Federation ( is, Körfuknattleikssamband Íslands – KKÍ). It consists of 11 teams and the season consists of a home-and-away schedule of 20 games. The top four non-reserve teams meet in a playoff for the victory in the league and promotion to 1. deild karla. History The third tier league was founded in 1973 as 3. deild karla with 11 teams. In 1978 it was rebranded as 2. deild karla. On 13 March 2020, the 2019–20 season was postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak in Iceland. Snæfell men's basketball, commonly known as Snæfell, is the men's basketball department of Ungmennafélagið Snæfell, based in Stykkishólmur, Iceland. History Snæfell won its first and only national championship in 2010, when it defeated Keflavík men's basketball, Keflavík in the Úrvalsdeild karla (basketball), Úrvalsdeild karla finals. Keflavík
Keflavík (pronounced , meaning ''Driftwood Bay'') is a town in the Reykjanes region in southwest Iceland. It is included in the municipality of Reykjanesbær whose population as of 2016 is 15,129. Keflavík Men's Basketball
The Keflavík men's basketball team, commonly known as Keflavík, is the men's professional basketball department of Keflavík ÍF (Keflavík, íþrótta- og ungmennafélag), based in the town of Reykjanesbær in Iceland. They currently play in Úrvalsdeild karla. Rivalry with Njarðvík Keflavík's biggest rivals are their closest neighbours, Njarðvík. The teams are both based in Reykjanesbær. The Íþróttafélag Reykjavíkur men's basketball team, commonly known as ÍR, is the men's basketball department of Íþróttafélag Reykjavíkur.
