Sebastiano Santi (1788–1866) was an Italian painter, active both in oil and frescoes. He was born in Murano and trained at the Academy of Fine Arts of Venice under Teodoro Matteini. His works are to be found in the Venetian churches. Murano
Murano is a series of islands linked by bridges in the Venetian Lagoon, northern Italy. It lies about north of Venice and measures about across with a population of just over 5,000 (2004 figures). It is famous for its glass making. It was once an independent ''comune'', but is now a ''frazione'' of the ''comune'' of Venice. Academy Of Fine Arts Of Venice
The is a public tertiary academy of art in Venice, Italy. History The Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia was founded on 24 September 1750; the statute dates from 1756. The first director was Giovanni Battista Piazzetta; Gianbattista Tiepolo became the first president after his return from Würzburg. The academy was at first housed in a room on the upper floor of the Fonteghetto della Farina, a flour warehouse and market on the Grand Canal, close to Piazza San Marco. The space was insufficient, and students and teachers had to contend with the noise and dust of the market, which also occupied the first floor of the building. Antonio Canova studied at the academy in the 1770s. In 1807, the academy was re-founded by Napoleonic decree. Teodoro Matteini
Teodoro Matteini (Pistoia, 1753 - Venice, 1831) was an Italian painter, mainly of historical and religious subjects in a Neoclassical style. Biography His father, Ippolito Matteini, born 1720, was a decorative painter and was the teacher of the design in the public schools of Pistoia. He was Tedoro's first influence. Under the patronage of, he moved to Rome to work in the studio of Domenico Corvi, and later worked with Anton Raphael Mengs, until he could establish his own studio. He painted in Rome for San Lorenzo in Lucina. He was active in Bergamo, Milan, and Venice. In 1802 at Venice, he was elected professor of painting at the Academy of Fine Arts, and in 1804, or design and in 1807 became professor in the new Academy. San Daniele, Padua
San Daniele is a Roman Catholic church and monastery in Padua, region of Veneto, Italy. History and description The church and its adjacent monastery were built by 1076 by Benedictines affiliated with the Basilica of Santa Giustina di Padova. Legend holds that then Bishop Ulderico had organized a procession to transport the relics of St Daniel of Padua from the church of Santa Giustina to the Cathedral, but upon arriving to this spot, the relics became too heavy to carry, and a darkness with thunder and lightning supervened, and the bishop made a promise to build here a church to the holy martyr. The saint is venerated as the deacon of Saint Prosdocimus, the first Bishop of Padua. San Daniele, sometimes labeled with the suffix "Levita", was said to have been a converted Jew who was martyred in the east in 168 A.D. San Geremia is a church in Venice, northern Italy, located in the ''sestiere'' of Cannaregio. The apse of the church faces the Grand Canal (Venice), between the Palazzo Labia and the Palazzo Flangini. The edifice is popular as the seat of the cult of Saint Lucy of Syracuse, whose remains are housed inside. History The first church was erected here in the 11th century, and was later rebuilt on several occasions. In 1206 it is mentioned to house the remains of St. Magnus of Oderzo (died 670), who had taken refuge in this area from the Lombards. A first rebuilding was held under doge Sebastiano Ziani, the new church being consecrated in 1292. The current edifice dates from 1753, designed by Carlo Corbellini; the façade is from 1861.
