Sebastian Castro (American Football)
Sebastian Castro (born October 14, 2000) is an American football defensive back for the Iowa Hawkeyes. Early life and high school Castro attended Harold L. Richards High School, located in Oak Lawn, Illinois. In Castro's senior season he notched 95 total tackles, with 6.5 tackles for loss, and six interceptions. Castro decided to commit to play college football at the University of Iowa, for the Iowa Hawkeyes. College career In Castro's first season in 2019, he redshirted and did not appear in any games. In the 2021 season, Castro recorded six tackles in four games. During the 2022 season, Castro notched 33 tackles, a sack, five pass deflections, and a pair of forced fumbles. Redshirt, in United States college athletics, is a delay or suspension of an athlete's participation in order to lengthen their period of eligibility. Typically, a student's athletic eligibility in a given sport is four seasons, aligning with the four years of academic classes typically required to earn a bachelor's degree at an American college or university. However, in a redshirt year, student athletes may attend classes at the college or university, practice with an athletic team, and "suit up" (wear a team uniform) for play – but they may compete in only a limited number of games (see " Use of status" section).
