'' ''Seasons of Love'' (also known as ''Love on the Land'' in Canada) is a four-hour Canadian television miniseries based on the novel ''The Earth Abideth'' by George Dell. The two part miniseries, produced for CBS by Sullivan Entertainment, was first broadcast in the US on March 7 and 9, 1999, under the title ''Seasons of Love''. In Canada, it was broadcast on television and released on home video under the title ''Love on the Land''. The film, directed by Daniel Petrie and starring Peter Strauss, Rachel Ward, Rip Torn and Hume Cronyn, was shot in Toronto and at Upper Canada Village near Morrisburg, Ontario. Daniel Petrie
Daniel Mannix Petrie (November 26, 1920 – August 22, 2004) was a Canadian film director, film, television director, television, and stage director who worked in Canada, Hollywood, and the United Kingdom; known for directing grounded human drama film, dramas often dealing with taboo subject matter. He was one of several Canadian-born expatriate filmmakers, including Norman Jewison and Sidney J. Furie, to find critical and commercial success overseas in the 1960s due to the limited opportunities in the Canadian film industry at the time. Hume Blake Cronyn Jr. OC (July 18, 1911 – June 15, 2003) was a Canadian-American actor and writer. Early life Cronyn, one of five children, was born in London, Ontario, Canada. Morrisburg is an unincorporated community in the Municipality of South Dundas, located in Eastern Ontario, Canada. History On November 11, 1813, the Battle of Crysler's Farm, at which a British force repelled an invading American army, took place near what was later to be called Morrisburg. United Empire Loyalist settlers settled in Dundas County, creating West Williamsburg and was part of the Williamsburg Canal project.
