Searle Scholar
The Searle Scholars Program is a career development award made annually to the 15 young US professionals in biomedical research and chemistry considered most promising. The award was established in 1980 by a donation from the Searle family, and is operated by the Chicago Community Trust. The award supports "research in medicine, chemistry, and the biological sciences"Program History Searle Scholars Program. with grants to academic institutions supporting the faculty in their first or second year of their first tenure-track assistant professor position. The award recognizes faculty who have made "important, innovative research" contributions and who have the potential for making continuing significant contributions. 15 awards are made per year. G.D. Searle, LLC is a wholly owned subsidiary of Pfizer. It is currently a trademark company and subsidiary of Pfizer, operating in more than 43 countries. Frederick Alt
Frederick W. Alt is an American geneticist. He is a member of the Immunology section of the National Academy of Sciences and a Charles A. Janeway Professor of Pediatrics, and Professor of Genetics at Harvard Medical School. He is the Director of the Program in Cellular and Molecular Medicine at the Boston Children's Hospital. He is a Howard Hughes Medical Institute investigator, since 1987. Career Alt completed his undergraduate studies at Brandeis University, graduating in 1971. He then went on to earn a Ph.D. in Biology from Stanford University in 1977 while under the research direction of Robert Schimke.
