Seans (russian: Сеанс, meaning Seance in English) is a film magazine published in St. Petersburg, Russia. It has been published since 1989, in 1993 the publishing house of the same name was established. By 2022, more than 100 books have been released by ''Seanse''. The magazine is widely acclaimed as the best blueprint on cinema in Russia. Lubov Arcus
Lyubov Yuryevna Arkus (russian: Любовь Юрьевна Аркус; born 1960) is a Russian director, film expert, editor, founder of ''Seans'' magazine, '' Anton's Right Here'' charity foundation, and ''Chapaev.media'' educational project. Biography Early years and education As recalled by Arkus, her family was of Jewish descent, her father's ancestors stemmed from Odesa and lived in Harbin. Her paternal grandfather Boris Arkus (1896–1938) was arrested in repressions of 1937 and shot in 1938, his widow was arrested and spent all her life in labour camps. Arkus entered Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography from the third attempt, she studied at the course of Lidiya Zaitseva. After graduation in 1984, she worked as a literary secretary of Viktor Shklovsky and an editor at Lenfilm. Vasily Stepanov (critic)
Vasily Yevgenievich Stepanov (russian: Васи́лий Евге́ньевич Степа́нов; born in 1981) is a Russian cinema critic, journalist, columnist; since 2020 — chief editor of ''Seans'' magazine. Stepanov was born in Leningrad, he is a St Petersburg Classical Gymnasium graduate and a SPBU alumni. He started his career as an editor of the cinema review section at Kalendar magazine, in 2006 he became an editor at ''Seans''. Stepanov started writing for this publication much earlier, at the age of 21. Stepanov wrote for Kommersant-Weekend, Russian Reporter, ''Empire'', Afisha, and others. In 2019, Stepanov released ''Bergman'', a book of critical essays and analytics, dedicated to the famous director. He also writes poetry. Anton Vladimirovich Dolin (; russian: Антон Владимирович Долин ) is a Russian film critic, journalist, radio host, blogger and podcaster. He was the chief editor of the ''Iskusstvo Kino'' magazine from 2017 to 2022 and the regular film reviewer of ''Evening Urgant'' from 2012 to 2020. Biography Anton Dolin is a son of a Soviet poet Veronika Dolina and professor of physics Vladimir Vorobyov. Alexander Nikolayevich Sokurov, PAR (russian: link=no, Александр Николаевич Сокуров; born 14 June 1951) is a Russian filmmaker. His most significant works include a feature film, ''Russian Ark'' (2002), filmed in a single unedited shot, and ''Faust'' (2011), which was honoured with the Golden Lion, the highest prize for the best film at the Venice Film Festival. Life and work Sokurov was born in Podorvikha, Irkutsky District, in Siberia, into a military officer's family. He graduated from the History Department of the Nizhny Novgorod University in 1974 and entered one of the VGIK studios the following year.
