Sean McCarthy (songwriter)
Sean McCarthy (1923–1990), a native of Finuge, County Kerry, Ireland, was an Irish songwriter. He was born one of 10 children, on 5 July 1923. He penned some of Ireland's favourite ballads including "Step It Out Mary", "Shanagolden", "Red Haired Mary" "In Shame Love, In Shame" and "Highland Paddy". In 1973 a collection of his songs was published in Listowel, Co. Kerry. "Poet, author, folklorist and traditional music aficionado" Mattie Lennon wrote a play about the life and works of Sean McCarthy entitled "And All his Songs Were Sad". It was produced by the Pantagleize Theatre Company in Fort Worth, Texas October 2010. It received a poor local review. A festival in honour of McCarthy is held every August in his home village of Finuge, County Kerry. The festival includes ballad and story writing competitions. Finuge has one of the oldest surviving authentic thatched cottages in Ireland and this house, Sheahan's Thatched Cottage is owned by the Festival Committee. Discogra ...

Seán McCarthy (1889 – 14 March 1974) was an Irish Fianna Fáil politician. A teacher by profession, he was first elected to Dáil Éireann as a Fianna Fáil Teachta Dála (TD) for the Cork South-East constituency at the 1944 general election but lost his seat at the 1948 general election running in the Cork Borough constituency. He was re-elected for the Cork Borough constituency at the 1951 general election. McCarthy was elected from the Cork South constituency at the 1954 Irish general election and the 1957 Irish general election. The last time McCarthy was elected was to represent the Cork Mid constituency at the 1961 Irish general election.. McCarthy also served as Lord Mayor of Cork on four occasions, from 1949 to 1951, 1958 to 1959, 1963 to 1964 and 1966 to 1967. Seán McCarthy (1 January 1937 – 12 July 2021) was an Irish Fianna Fáil politician. A Physician, medical doctor before entering politics, he was elected to Dáil Éireann as a Fianna Fáil Teachta Dála (TD) for the Tipperary South (Dáil constituency), Tipperary South constituency at the 1981 Irish general election, 1981 general election. He was re-elected at each subsequent election until he lost his seat at the 1989 Irish general election, 1989 general election. He was elected to Seanad Éireann for the Agricultural Panel in the following Seanad election. He unsuccessfully contested both the 1992 Irish general election, 1992 general election and the subsequent Seanad election. Seán McCarthy (hurler)
Seán McCarthy (born 8 February 1966) is an Irish retired hurler who played as a right wing-back for the Cork senior team. Born in Ballinhassig, County Cork, along with brothers Damien who was on cork minor, under-21 intermediate, Denis, Drew and his sister Marion who was on cork camogie. McCarthy first arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of eighteen when he first linked up with the Cork minor team before later joining the under-21 and junior sides. He made his senior debut during the 1986–87 league. McCarthy subsequently became a regular member of the starting fifteen and won one All-Ireland medal, two Munster medals and one National Hurling League medal. He was an All-Ireland runner-up on one occasion. As a member of the Munster inter-provincial team, McCarthy never won Railway Cup medal. Sean McCarthy (born 12 September 1967) is a Welsh football manager, coach and former professional player who made over 500 appearances in the Football League. McCarthy played primarily as a striker; however, he was also used in defence. Career Playing career Born in Bridgend, Glamorgan, McCarthy began his career with hometown team Bridgend Town, before moving to Swansea City just a season later. McCarthy also played in the Football League for Plymouth Argyle, Bradford City, Oldham Athletic, Bristol City and Exeter City, scoring 171 goals in 547 appearances. He is the most recent player to score a top flight goal for Oldham Athletic, scoring for them in a 1–1 FA Premier League draw against Norwich City at Carrow Road on the final day of the 1993–94 season, a game which Oldham's failure to win cost them their top flight status. Sean McCarthy (22 January 1922 – 14 August 2006) was an Irish football player from County Cork who enjoyed considerable success with Cork United in the 1940s and was the League of Ireland top scorer on four occasions. Early life McCarthy was born in Dunmanway in West Cork in 1922 and began playing football for local side Clifton before being recruited by Cork United at the age of 18. Often referred to as "Big" Seanie to differentiate him from a smaller teammate of the same name, McCarthy was 5 foot 11 inches tall but in his early days especially was known for his slim build. Club career McCarthy scored on his debut in a 1–1 draw with Shamrock Rovers and helped Cork to the title in his first season (1940–41) as well as winning the FAI Cup after a replay with Waterford F.C.. Seán McCarthy (born 12 February 1993) is an Irish rugby union player. He plays as a lock Munster On 18 March 2016, McCarthy made his competitive debut for Munster when he came on as a substitute against Cardiff Blues in a 2015–16 Pro12 fixture. He joined the senior Munster squad on a one-year development contract for the 2016–17 season. In April 2016, McCarthy was nominated for the John McCarthy Award for Academy Player of the Year.
