Seán Clancy
Seán Clancy (7 July 1901 – 17 September 2006) was a veteran of Ireland's War of Independence. Clancy served in the war as a member of Irish Republican Army, and later as a commander of the Fifth Infantry Battalion in the Irish Defence Forces. He was a Lieutenant-Colonel at the time of his death. Personal life He grew up on a farm in the parish of Bridgetown in East Clare. He married Agnes Creagh, from Castlebar, in 1926, and they had five children. Politics Clancy was a prominent participant in the Dublin Castle ceremony in which Britain handed power to the new Irish government. Clancy was a Fine Gael supporter throughout his life, he received visits from Liam Cosgrave, John Bruton and Enda Kenny. He died 17 September 2006, aged 105, after a short illness, at St Vincent's Hospital, Dublin. Lieutenant General Seán Clancy is an Irish Air Corps general and current Chief of Staff of the Irish Defence Forces since 29 September 2021. Clancy spent 16 years of his military career as a search and rescue (SAR) pilot for the Irish Air Corps, before moving up the chain of command as Chief of Air Staff ( GOC Air Corps) and Defence Forces Headquarters appointments such as Director of Strategic Planning and Deputy Chief of Staff (Support). Clancy has also spent a number of years on overseas deployments with the EU and UN. He is the first Chief of Staff from the Air Corps branch. Early life Clancy is a native of Mitchelstown in County Cork and grew up partaking in scouting, progressing to become a patrol leader in the 30th Cork Scout Troop, competing for the Melvin Cup (an all-Ireland scouting competition). Sean Clancy (born 30 December 1988) is an Irish people, Irish Muay thai kickboxer and the reigning List of WBC Muaythai world champions#Super lightweight, WBC Muaythai Super Lightweight World Champion. He is the former WBC Muaythai Super Lightweight International champion, the former Cage Muaythai Super Lightweight champion and International Sport Karate Association, ISKA Irish Welterweight champion. He was the 2019 WBC Muaythai "Male Fighter of the Year". He is currently signed with ONE Championship and will compete in their Bantamweight#Kickboxing, Bantamweight Muaythai division.
