Lawrence McGill
Lawrence B. McGill (1866–1928) was an American actor and director. At the turn of the 20th century, he was a leading man for Keystone Dramatic Company. He produced stage plays and then went on to act and direct films. He also worked for the New York Reliance-Mutual Company. Career Lawrence McGill was a director, writer, and actor. McGill and Gertrude Shipman played a "dandy repertoire of plays" for Keystone Dramatic Company in opera houses across Ohio, Pennsylvania and New Jersey starting by November 1899. In 1909, McGill began producing plays, with Gertrude as the leading lady and Richard Gordon (actor), Richard Gordon her new leading man, at the Lyric Theater in Buffalo, New York. They opened with ''Dorothy Hernan of Haddon Hall'', an Elizabethan period piece. Shipman operated the Gertrude Shipman and Associated Players for other players for McGill's production. Dorothy Agnes Donnelly (January 28, 1876 - January 3, 1928) was an actress, playwright, librettist, producer, and director. After a decade-long acting career that included several notable roles on Broadway, she turned to writing plays, musicals and operettas, including more than a dozen on Broadway including several long-running successes. Her most famous libretto was ''The Student Prince'' (1924), in collaboration with composer Sigmund Romberg. Life and career Donnelly was born January 28, 1876, in Brooklyn, New York, to Thomas Lester Donnelly (1832–1880), the manager of the Grand Opera House in New York, and his wife Sarah (née Williams). Donnelly attended the Convent of the Sacred Heart in New York. She began acting on Broadway in 1901, playing the title role in '' Candida''. Metro Pictures Corporation was a Film, motion picture production company founded in early 1915 in Jacksonville, Florida. It was a forerunner of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. The company produced its films in New York, Los Angeles, and sometimes at leased facilities in Fort Lee, New Jersey, Fort Lee, New Jersey. It was purchased in 1919. History Metro Pictures was founded as a film distribution company in February 1915 by a number of "exchange men" with Richard A. Rowland as president, George Grombacher as vice-president and Louis B. A silent film is a film with no synchronized recorded sound (or more generally, no audible dialogue). Though silent films convey narrative and emotion visually, various plot elements (such as a setting or era) or key lines of dialogue may, when necessary, be conveyed by the use of title cards. The term "silent film" is something of a misnomer, as these films were almost always accompanied by live sounds. During the silent era that existed from the mid-1890s to the late 1920s, a pianist, theater organist—or even, in large cities, a small orchestra—would often play music to accompany the films.
