Sea O'Erin Stakes
The Sea o'Erin Stakes was American Thoroughbred horse race held annually in early September at Arlington Park racetrack in Arlington Heights, Illinois. A Grade III event open to horses age three and older, it was contested on turf over a distance of one mile (8 furlongs). Inaugurated in 1980 as the Sea o'Erin Handicap, the race was run at various distances: * miles : 1980, 1987 * miles : 1981–1985 Due to heavy rains, the 1996 race was switched from the turf course to the main dirt track. Arlington Park
Arlington International Racecourse (formerly Arlington Park, the name was Arlington Park Jockey Club from as soon as 1948 up to 1955) was a horse race track in the Chicago suburb of Arlington Heights, Illinois. Horse racing in the Chicago region had been a popular sport since the early days of the city in the 1830s, and at one time Chicago had more horse racing tracks (six) than any other major metropolitan area. Arlington International was the site of the first thoroughbred race with a million-dollar purse in 1981. It was located near the Illinois Route 53 expressway. It was serviced by the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad. The premier event at Arlington Park was the International Festival of Racing, held in early August, which featured three Grade 1 races on turf: the Arlington Million Stakes, Beverly D. Robby J. Albarado (born September 11, 1973, in Lafayette, Louisiana) is an American Thoroughbred horse racing jockey. He began riding at the age of 10 and progressed to riding at bush tracks in his native Louisiana by the age of 12. After turning professional, he earned his first official win at Evangeline Downs in 1990. Since then, he has won more than 5,000 races, but his career has endured setbacks as a result of serious injuries.
