Sea Hags (album)
''Sea Hags'' is the eponymous only album by the American hard rock band Sea Hags. It was released in 1989 through Chrysalis Records. During recording, the band's line up changed several times as the label and the band did not think they were capable of producing the right sound. After the album was released, the band went on a European tour, where they promptly broke up. The members had thoughts about reforming in 1991, but when bassist and founding member Chris Schlosshardt died of pneumonia, the band's fate was sealed. His death also contributed to the dissolution of another band, The Nymphs. That band's lead singer, Inger Lorre, was Schlosshardt's girlfriend, and she went back to New Jersey in the wake of his death. Sea Hags was an American hard rock band from San Francisco, California, United States. Their style has primarily been referred to as motorcycle rock and sleaze metal. History Sea Hags formed in San Francisco in 1985 by frontman Ron Yocom, and bassist Chris Schlosshardt. During the three years before they had the chance to record a major label debut album, they often worked two jobs to keep their dreams of a music career alive. During the band's early years they played gigs with bands such as Dead Kennedys, Motörhead, the Ramones, and The Cramps. They were signed to Chrysalis Records in December 1987. Kirk Hammett, the guitarist of Metallica, co-produced their first demos with Sylvia Massy, who went on to produce two releases by progressive rock band Tool. Glam Metal
Glam metal (also known as hair metal or pop metal) is a subgenre of heavy metal that features pop-influenced hooks and guitar riffs, upbeat rock anthems, and slow power ballads. It borrows heavily from the fashion and image of 1970s glam rock. Early glam metal evolved directly from the glam rock movement of the 1970s, as visual elements taken from acts such as T. Rex, the New York Dolls, and David Bowie (and to a lesser extent, the punk and new wave movements taking place concurrently in New York City) were fused with the decidedly more heavy metal leaning and theatrical acts such as Alice Cooper and Kiss. Hard Rock
Hard rock or heavy rock is a loosely defined subgenre of rock music typified by aggressive vocals and distorted electric guitars. Hard rock began in the mid-1960s with the garage, psychedelic and blues rock movements. Some of the earliest hard rock music was produced by the Kinks, the Who, The Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Cream, Vanilla Fudge, and the Jimi Hendrix Experience. Chrysalis Records () is a British record label that was founded in 1968. The name is both a reference to the pupal stage of a butterfly and a combination of its founders' names, Chris Wright and Terry Ellis. It started as the Ellis-Wright Agency. Mike Clink is an American record producer. He began his career as an engineer at Record Plant Studios, recording such bands as Whitesnake, Triumph, Guns N' Roses, Mötley Crüe, Megadeth, UFO (including ''Strangers in the Night''), Jefferson Starship, The Babys, Heart, Eddie Money, and many others. Career Clink began producing in 1986. "After a series of failed attempts", Steve Kurutz at AllMusic noted, "a young band named Guns N' Roses asked Clink to produce their debut album, ''Appetite for Destruction''." Nymphs are an American alternative rock band that performed in the late 1980s and early 1990s with lead singer Inger Lorre. Inger Lorre (born Lori Ann Wening) is an American singer who is best known for her band Nymphs. Music career Nymphs Nymphs spent the mid-to-late '80s honing their craft in New Jersey, but they soon decided to try to make it big in California. They hadn't been there more than a few months before only Inger and guitarist Geoff Siegel were left. They replaced the other two with guitarist Sam Merrick, drummer Alex Kirst, and bassist Cliff D.
