Screven () is a city in Wayne County, Georgia, United States. The population was 766 at the 2010 census. Although it was a railroad town as early as 1847, it was not officially chartered until August 19, 1907. History The Georgia General Assembly incorporated Screven as a town in 1907. Screven County, Georgia
Screven County is a county located in the southeastern part of the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 14,067. The county seat is Sylvania. History The county was created on December 14, 1793, and was named for General James Screven, who died fighting in Georgia during the American Revolutionary War. Some wartime accounts used the alternate spelling of "Scriven" for the general, and the county's name was often spelled that way in its early history, as reflected on 19th-century Georgia maps. Sylvania became the county seat in 1847, moved from Jacksonborough, by an act of State legislation. USS ''Screven'' (AK-210) was an that was constructed for the US Navy during the closing period of World War II. She served in the Pacific Ocean theatre of operations and returned home in 1946 to be placed into the "mothball fleet" where she remained until sold in 1947 for commercial maritime service. Construction ''Screven'' was laid down under US Maritime Commission (MARCOM) contract, MC hull 2164, on 11 July 1944, by Leathem D. Smith Shipbuilding Company, Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin; launched on 30 November 1944; sponsored by Mrs. Harold Roeth; acquired on 3 July 1945; and commissioned on 2 August 1945. Service history World War II-related service After shakedown, ''Screven'' arrived at Gulfport, Mississippi, on 31 August 1945 to load cargo.
