Scottish Hockey
The Scottish Hockey Union, commonly referred to simply as Scottish Hockey or the SHU, is the national governing body for the sport of field hockey in Scotland. It is the SHU's responsibility to help provide for the development, promotion and management of hockey in Scotland. It is also the body that acts as "National Association" for Scotland at the EHF and FIH. History The origins of the Scottish Hockey Union, like many hockey organisations started with separate associations for men and women. The Scottish Women's Hockey Association (SWHA) was formed in February 1900, in Edinburgh by eight clubs. Dr. Mona Chalmers Watson, from Edinburgh Ladies, was elected the first president with Josephine Katherine Stewart of St Andrews as vice-President. Scotland Women's National Field Hockey Team
The Scotland women's national field hockey team represents Scotland in international women's field hockey competitions, with the exception of the Olympic Games when Scottish players are eligible to play for the Great Britain women's national field hockey team as selected. Scotland recently participated in the inaugural season of the FIH Hockey World League, but were knocked out in round 2, failing to qualify for the 2014 Hockey World Cup in The Hague, Netherlands. they are seventeenth in the FIH outdoor world rankings. Competing as Great Britain Scotland do not compete at the Olympic Games, but Scottish players are eligible to play for Great Britain as selected. West District of the Scottish Hockey Union is the full name for the district operating within the Scottish Hockey Union, that covers men's hockey in the west of Scotland. The West District operates local leagues, both indoor and outdoor, for men and many youth competitions. History The Men's West District Hockey was founded in 1900, however competitive leagues were not allowed in Scotland until 1955. The first competitive season was won by Western Wildcats Hockey Club. Scottish Hockey Cup
The Scottish Hockey Cup or just Scottish Cup is the top men's cup competition in Scottish Field Hockey. The competition starts in September each year, with the final being held in May, at Glasgow's National Hockey Centre. Format Clubs enter the Scottish Cup each year through the Scottish Hockey Union and fixtures are drawn up by Scottish Hockey. Recently, the draws have been live streamed on Scottish Hockey's YouTube channel. Teams play each other once, with the winning team going through and losing team entering the Scottish Plate. In the result of tie, teams go to a penalty shoot out. Past winners Sponsorship The first sponsor of the Cup was the Scottish Daily Mail and it was known as the Scottish Daily Mail Trophy. Scottish Hockey National Leagues
Scottish Hockey currently runs three men's national outdoor leagues and two women's national outdoor leagues. The season runs from September to May, with a break in winter for the Indoor league. The winners of the Premiership (both men's and women's) are declared Scottish Champions. Men's Premiership The Men's Premiership (formerly Men's Nation League Division 1) is the top of the top tier of men's field hockey in Scotland. The winners are crowned as Scottish Hockey champions. At the end of the season, the top four teams enter a playoff to see who plays in the EHL. First plays fourth and second play third - the two winners' then play in a grand finale at the Glasgow National Hockey Centre. The Scotland men's national field hockey team represents Scotland in men's international field hockey competitions, with the exception of the Olympic Games when Scottish players are eligible to play for the Great Britain men's national field hockey team.
