Scott Young (American Football)
Scott Lewis Young (born July 15, 1981) is a retired American football Guard (American football), guard. He was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the fifth round of the 2005 NFL Draft. He played college football at Brigham Young Cougars football, BYU. Young also played for the Cleveland Browns and Denver Broncos. Early years Young attended Hillcrest High School (Midvale), Hillcrest High School in Midvale, Utah, and was a three-year letterman in football. He is the son of a police officer and an elementary school teacher. According to ''The Philadelphia Inquirer'' Young is an Eagle Scout with 64 merit badges. College career Young was a two-year starter at Utah Tech University, Dixie State College (when it was still a junior college), and led Dixie with 15.5 sacks as a sophomore. He transferred to Brigham Young in 2002. Guard (American Football)
In gridiron football, a guard (G), otherwise known as an offensive guard (OG), is a player who lines up between the center and the tackles on the offensive line of a football team on the line of scrimmage used primarily for blocking. Right guards (RG) is the term for the guards on the right of the offensive line, while left guards (LG) are on the left side. Guards are to the right or left of the center. The guard's job is to protect the quarterback from the incoming linemen during pass plays, as well as creating openings (holes) for the running backs to head through. Guards are automatically considered ineligible receivers, so they cannot intentionally touch a forward pass, unless it is to recover a fumble or is first touched by a defender or eligible receiver. Utah Tech University (UT), formerly known as Dixie State University (DSU) and similar names, is a public university in St. George, Utah. The NFL Scouting Combine is a week-long showcase occurring every February at Lucas Oil Stadium (and formerly at the RCA Dome until 2008) in Indianapolis, where college football players perform physical and mental tests in front of National Football League coaches, general managers, and scouts.
