Scott Township is one of the fifteen townships of Adams County, Ohio, United States. As of the 2010 census the population was 2,180. Geography Located in the northern part of the county, it borders the following townships: * Jackson Township, Highland County - north * Bratton Township - northeast * Meigs Township - east * Oliver Township - southeast * Wayne Township - southwest * Winchester Township - west * Concord Township, Highland County - northwest Most of the village of Seaman is located in southwestern Scott Township. Thomas Scott (Ohio)
Thomas Scott (October 31, 1772 – February 13, 1856) was Clerk of the Ohio State Senate from 1803 to 1809 and an Ohio Supreme Court Judge from 1809 to 1816. Thomas Scott was born at Oldtown, Frederick (now Allegany) County, Maryland. Howe 1891 : 192 At age eighteen, he was ordained to preach in the Methodist church and, in 1793, was placed in charge of the Ohio circuit. In May 1796, he married Catherine Wood. Evans 1917 : 160-162 He learned the art of tailoring, and studied law under James Brown of Lexington, Kentucky. He practiced in Flemingsburgh, Kentucky, in 1799 and 1800. Scott came to Chillicothe, Ohio, early in 1801, and was licensed to practice in June, 1801. He was Clerk of the Northwest Territory Legislature that winter. In November, 1802, he was secretary at the State Constitutional Convention. He was first justice of the peace in Ross County, and was clerk of the Ohio Senate 1803–1809. Seaman, Ohio
Seaman is a village in Scott Township, Adams County, Ohio, United States. The population was 944 at the 2010 census. State Route 247 passes through Seaman. Seaman is adjacent to Ohio State Route 32, a four lane divided highway known as the Appalachian Highway. The Appalachian Highway links Seaman to Cincinnati. A traffic signal is at the intersection of Routes 32 and 247. Seaman is served by North Adams High School, the Adams County/Ohio Valley School District, and the North Adams Public Library, a branch of the Adams County Public Library. Seaman is also home to the Adams County Regional Medical Center, a county hospital built in 2007. History Seaman was laid out in 1888 when the railroad was extended to that point.
