Scott Gowans
Scott Gowans is an Australian rules football coach and coach of the Sydney Swans in the AFL Women's, having previously served as the head coach of the North Melbourne Football Club in the AFL Women's competition (AFLW) between 2019 and 2020. Coaching career Gowans coached senior local men's football in West Gippsland as an assistant with Longwarry in the Ellinbank & District Football League in 2013 and 2014, before becoming senior coach during the 2015 and 2016 seasons. In 2015 and 2016 he also served as the inaugural head coach of the Dandenong Stingrays women's academy side, including in the Stingrays 2016 Youth Girls Academy Challenge premiership win. Gowans coached the Victoria Country side at the 2016 AFL Youth Girls National Championships before winning the national title with the same side at the 2017 Championships. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). The Sydney Swans are a professional Australian rules football club based in Sydney, New South Wales. North Melbourne Football Club
The North Melbourne Football Club, nicknamed the Kangaroos, is a professional Australian rules football club. The men's team competes in the Australian Football League (AFL), and the women's team in the AFL Women's (AFLW). The Kangaroos also field a reserves men's team in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Ellinbank & District Football League
The Ellinbank and District Football League is an Australian rules football and Netball League, based in the West Gippsland region of Victoria for smaller towns and villages in the regions of Baw Baw, South Gippsland and Cardinia. There are 11 teams in the league fielding 2 senior football sides and 2 football junior sides (U/16 and U/18) and 3 senior netball sides and 3 junior netball sides. Dandenong Stingrays
The Dandenong Southern Stingrays are an Australian rules football team in the NAB League, the Victorian statewide under-18s competition. 1992 saw the birth of the Southern Stingrays, developed under the leadership of Steve Kennedy (Regional Manager) and Ron Roach (Promotions Manager) with its home base located at Ben Kavanagh Reserve, Mordialloc, Victoria, Mordialloc. The side is coached in the inaugural year by Peter Russo. In 1995 the club moved from Mordialloc to Dandenong, Victoria, Dandenong and it also changed its name to the Dandenong Southern Stingrays. 2016 AFL Youth Girls National Championships
The 2016 edition of the AFL Youth Girls National Championships was held from 2 May to 6 May in Melbourne, Victoria. Nine teams competed in the round-robin tournament, divided into pool A: Queensland, Western Australia, Vic Country and Vic Metro; and pool B: the Northern Territory, South Australia, Tasmania, a combined New South Wales and Australian Capital Territory side (NSW/ACT) and the Indigenous Australian Woomeras. A professional women's Australian rules football competition (AFL Women's (AFLW)) was to be inaugurated in 2017, creating a new incentive for performance in the championships. Several clubs who had received AFLW licences used the competition to scout potential players. 2017 AFL Women's Under 18 Championships
The 2017 NAB AFL Women's Under-18 Championships was played between May and July 2017, with six teams competing and with a further three playing in a two-match round-robin series as a de facto Division 2. An Allies side (made up of players from the division two competition) was introduced as a division one team. This was designed to give the best prospects from those regions the opportunity to play at a national level in the division one carnival. Thus, division one was made up of six teams—Allies, NSW/ACT, Queensland, Vic Country, Vic Metro and Western Australia—playing each other across five rounds. VFL Women's
VFL Women's (VFLW) is the major state-level women's Australian rules football league in Victoria. The league initially comprised the six premier division clubs and the top four division 1 clubs from the now-defunct Victorian Women's Football League (VWFL), and has since evolved into what is also the second primary competition for AFL Women's (AFLW) clubs in Victoria. Melbourne University Football Club, often known simply as University, is an Australian rules football club based at the University of Melbourne.
