Schützenliesel
''Schützenliesel'' is a 1954 West German period comedy film directed by Rudolf Schündler and starring Herta Staal, Helmuth Schneider and Joe Stöckel.Goble p.149 It is based on an operetta of the same title. It was shot at the Spandau Studios in West Berlin and on location at Mittenwald, Garmisch-Partenkirchen and the Lautersee in Bavaria. The film's sets were designed by the art directors Karl Weber and Helmut Nentwig. Synopsis In a small Bavarian town at the beginning of the twentieth century, pretty young Gretl is in love with a border guard despite the disapproval of her father. He resents the young man because he is the son of a woman who once spurned him. Things come to a head at the Schützenfest, after the guard courageously rounds up a gang of smugglers. Rudolf Schündler
Rudolf Ernst Paul Schündler (17 April 1906, in Leipzig – 12 December 1988, in Munich) was a German actor and director. He played "Karl" in ''The Exorcist'' (1973). After finishing the film ''The Nasty Girl'', Schündler died of a heart attack in Germany, aged 82. The film was released in 1990, two years after his death. A Schützenfest (, '' marksmen's festival'') is a traditional festival or fair featuring a target shooting competition in the cultures of Germany, the Netherlands and Switzerland. At a Schützenfest, contestants compete based on their shooting abilities, for example, by shooting at a wooden representation of an eagle. The competition's winner becomes the ''Schützenkönig'' ("king of marksmen") until the following year's competition. The commercially-organized Hanover Schützenfest, Germany, is the largest marksmen's funfair in the world with more than 7,000 marksmen, 250 rides and inns, five large beer tents, and the "Marksmen's Parade".
