Schwentine
The Schwentine is a river in the North German state of Schleswig-Holstein. It is approximately long and rises on the hill of Bungsberg, the highest point in the state, near the village of Kasseedorf in Ostholstein. It then runs from its source to Kiel where it flows into the Kiel Fjord, a bay of the Baltic Sea. It passes through several lakes, including the Großer Plöner See, the largest lake in Schleswig-Holstein, as well as the towns Eutin, Malente, Plön, Preetz and Kiel. Water management The Schwentine is of great importance in the supply of drinking water managed by the Kiel Utilities Company. The Schwentine Valley Waterworks (''Wasserwerk Schwentinetal'') has been located near Klausdorf since about 1900. Although the Schwentine valley gives an exceptionally natural impression along virtually its entire length, it is closely linked to the industrialisation of the city of Kiel. Alte Schwentine
The Alte Schwentine ("Old Schwentine") is a river in the region of Holstein in North Germany. Its different sections are also known as the Bornau, Depenau, Kührener Au, Postau and Mühlenau. Course It rises near Bornhöved on the hill of Grimmelsberg by the road from Bornhöved to Tarbek in a meadow and in the mill pond of Bornhöved. Initially, it flows through the Bornhöveder See and from there to the Schmalensee. From there it flows past former Slavic Belauburg into the Belauer See. Behind the lake it passes the Perdöl Mill, an old water mill, and flows into the Stolper See in an old carr wood at Perdöl Manor House (''Gut Perdöl''). It leaves the Stolper See at Depenau Mill and flows past Depenau Moor (''Depenauer Hochmoor'') towards Depenau Manor House (''Gut Depenau''). Rosensee
The Rosensee is a lake in the region of Holstein Switzerland in the state of Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. History The lake began as a reservoir, built in 1908 as part of the construction of the Schwentine Hydropower Plants (''Schwentine Wasserkraftwerke'') by the shipyard builder, Bernhard Howaldt, and today is a fundamental component of the landscape park of the River Schwentine. To achieve this, Howaldt had first to buy up lands along the Schwentine from the Count of Rantzau and Preetz Priory. The price of a hectare at that time was about 2,000 marks. Großer Eutiner See
The Großer Eutiner See is a lake in Holstein Switzerland, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. It lies northeast of the town of Eutin. It has an area of , is up to 17 metres deep and lies at a height of about . It northern side borders directly on the woods of the Seeschaarwald. In the western part of the lake, separated by the Bebensund Bridge, the Fissauer Bucht, its main inflow, the River Schwentine enters, and then leaves again a little further west. For boating enthusiasts the Schwentine is only navigable upstream as far as the Großer Eutiner See. Dieksee
The Dieksee is a lake in the Holstein Switzerland region of North Germany. Geography It has an area of , a maximum length of about 3.4 kilometres and a maximum width of 1.6 kilometres. The lake is up to 38 metres deep, its surface elevation is about and it is crossed by the River Schwentine from east to west. This waterway links the Dieksee to the other lakes in the Holstein Lake District (the Kleiner- and Großer Eutiner See, the Kellersee, the Großen- and Kleinen Plöner See and the Ukleisee). Großer Plöner See
The Großer Plöner See ("Great Plön Lake") or Lake Plön ("Plöner See", ) is the largest lake (30 km²) in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. It is located near the town of Plön. Its main tributary, as well as its main outflow, is the River Schwentine. Geography General With an area of about 30 km² and a depth of up to 58 m, the Großer Plöner See is the largest and deepest lake in the state of Schleswig-Holstein. It lies wholly within the Holstein Switzerland Nature Park. On its north shore lies the county town of Plön, whose emblem depicts the lake below Plön Castle situated on a hill. The Behler See is a lake in the Holstein Switzerland region of North Germany. It lies between Timmdorf (municipality of Malente) to the east and the town of Plön to the west.
