''Schweiz aktuell'' (literally "Switzerland Today") is the title of a current affairs show on German-language Swiss public television channel SRF 1. It started in 1981 as ''DRS aktuell'', ''Schweiz aktuell''. Background and contents ''Schweiz aktuell'' reports on major cantonal, regional and local issues and events, covering all parts of the country. Editors consider regional diversity, i.e. regional news and stories that are significant and are of national interest. In addition to the usual news forms, the broadcast includes live reports and interviews, usually in Swiss German, with domestic correspondents. Features are produced daily; for instance, in August 2014 a historical documentary series focussed on a fictional family and their weaving company, living in summer 1914 in the Tösstal valley. Schweizer Radio und Fernsehen (SRF; "Swiss Radio and Television") is a Swiss broadcasting company created on 1 January 2011 through the merger of radio company Schweizer Radio DRS (SR DRS) and television company Schweizer Fernsehen (SF). The new business unit of SRG SSR became the largest electronic media house of German-speaking Switzerland. About 2,150 employees work for SRF in the four main studios in Basel, Bern, and Zürich. Swiss Standard German (german: Schweizer Standarddeutsch), or Swiss High German (german: Schweizer Hochdeutsch or ''Schweizerhochdeutsch''), referred to by the Swiss as ''Schriftdeutsch'', or ''Hochdeutsch'', is the written form of one of four official languages in Switzerland, besides French, Italian and Romansh. SRF 1 (''SRF eins'') is a German-language Swiss television channel, one of three produced by the SRG SSR public-service broadcasting group (the others being SRF zwei and SRF info).
