Peel, Isle Of Man
Peel ( gv, Purt ny h-Inshey – Port of the Island) is a seaside town and small fishing port in the Isle of Man, in the historic parish of German but administered separately. Peel is the third largest town in the island after Douglas and Ramsey but the fourth largest settlement, as Onchan has the second largest population but is classified as a village. Until 2016 (when it was merged with Glenfaba) Peel was also a House of Keys constituency, electing one Member of the House of Keys (MHK), who, from September 2015, was Ray Harmer. Peel has a ruined castle on St Patrick's Isle, and a cathedral, seat of the Diocese of Sodor and Man (the diocese was founded when Mann was ruled by the Norse). Geography Peel is on the west coast of the Isle of Man, on the east side of the mouth of the River Neb. University College Isle of Man (UCM; gv, Colleish-Olloscoill Ellan Vannin) is the primary centre for tertiary, vocational education, higher education and adult education on the British Crown dependency of the Isle of Man, located in the Manx capital Douglas. The Buchan School
The Buchan School ( gv, Yn Scoill Buchan) is an independent primary school in the south of the Isle of Man, catering for children aged 3–11. It is the junior school of King William's College. History The Buchan School was established by Lady Laura Buchan in the 1875 as a "school for females" and was originally known as The High School for Girls. The original campus was located on Douglas Road, on the promenade in Castletown, however the school soon out-grew its original site and moved to a new site named "Westhill" about a mile away. In 1991 The Buchan amalgamated with King William's College and changed to a co-educational prep school for King William's College. the school had approximately 250 pupils. King William's College
King William's College (nicknamed KWC or King Bill's; gv, Colleish Ree Illiam) is an independent school for pupils aged 3 to 18, located near Castletown on the Isle of Man. It is a member of the International Baccalaureate and Headmasters' and Headmistresses' Conference organisations. The College operates at two sites in or near Castletown: a main senior school campus on the shore of Castletown Bay, and a prep school (called The Buchan School) in the Westhill part of Castletown, two miles from the main campus. The College was originally for boys only, but became co-educational in the 1980s. It has roughly five hundred pupils, many from beyond the British Isles. The UK Department for Education categorises it as an Overseas British school. Ramsey Grammar School
Ramsey Grammar School is a coeducational comprehensive secondary school located in Ramsey, on the Isle of Man. History A grammar school has existed in Ramsey since 1681. It moved to Lezayre Road in 1933 and was housed in a building that now forms the east building of the present school. It was decommissioned and requisitioned by the military during the Second World War from 1940 to 1946. In 1946 Ramsey Grammar School was re-opened as a non-selective mixed comprehensive school. It was the first full comprehensive school in the British Isles with 460 pupils on its register. The school now has over 1,000 pupils with 140 teaching and support staff. Queen Elizabeth II High School
Queen Elizabeth II High School (commonly referred to as simply QE2) is a mixed comprehensive school in Peel, Isle of Man. The school teaches the years 7-11 as well as a sixth form for years 12–13. Queen Elizabeth II High School follows the Manx National Curriculum. Schools are not subject to Ofsted and Examination results are not published. The school population has grown to about 800 students and about 50 staff. GCSE Manx is offered from the age of 12. The Department of Education, Sport and Culture (''Rheynn Ynsee Spoyrt as Cultoor'') is a department of the Isle of Man Government. The department was formerly the Department of Education and Children and was renamed as the Department of Education, Sport and Culture under Statutory Document No. 2017/0325 with effect from November 2017. Castle Rushen High School
Castle Rushen High School is a co-educational secondary state school located in Castletown on the Isle of Man for pupils from the south of the island and from the nearby Parish the Calf of Man. Isle of Man school system The Isle of Man has six secondary schools. St Ninian's High School ( gv, Schoill Ard Noo Ninian) is a secondary school located in Douglas and Onchan, on the Isle of Man. The School is set over two different sites, catering for different year groups. History The modern institution originated as a 1985 union of previously independent upper and lower schools. The lower dates to 1894, originally based at Park Road in central Douglas. The upper school, Douglas High School for Boys was founded in 1927 at Ballaquayle. Alumni of the high school formed the football club Douglas High School Old Boys A.F.C. A review of secondary education in Douglas in 1985 formed St. Ninians, establishing a new name and uniting the two parts. In 1998, staff member Alex Townsend developed the Manx Telecomputer Bus program, which saw the development of a mobile IT classroom.
