Schneeberg (Alps)
The Schneeberg, with its high summit ''Klosterwappen'', is the highest mountain of Lower Austria, and the easternmost and northernmost mountain in the Alps to exceed 2000 m. It is a distinctive limestone massif with steep slopes on three sides. The Schneeberg is one of the Northern Calcareous Alps in the borderland between Lower Austria and Styria, in the eastern part of Austria. It and the Rax (), some to the south-west, are collectively considered the Viennese Hausberge (Vienna's "local mountains"). The rich Karst plateaux have provided drinking water for Vienna, via a long pipeline, since 1873, and is claimed to be the best drinking water in the world. On clear days, Schneeberg can be readily seen from parts of Vienna, some away (as the crow flies), from Bratislava in Slovakia and even from Babí Lom above Brno 180 km away. Schneeberg (Fichtel Mountains)
At , the Schneeberg is the highest mountain in the Fichtelgebirge, a mountain range in Upper Franconia in northeast Bavaria, Germany. It can be readily identified from a distance by its squat tower - a relic of the Cold War. The summit comprises a jumble of granite rocks and a rock pillar (''Felsburg'') on which the ''Backöfele'' observation tower stands and is still dominated by the relics of military installations including its Cold War listening post. From a natural region perspective, the mountain is part of the major unit of the High Fichtel Mountains (''Hohes Fichtelgebirge'', 394).E. Meynen und J. Schneeberg is a market municipality in the Miltenberg district in the ''Regierungsbezirk'' of Lower Franconia (''Unterfranken'') in Bavaria, Germany. Geography Location Schneeberg lies in the Bavarian Lower Main (''Bayerischer Untermain'') Region. The municipality has the following ''Gemarkungen'' (traditional rural cadastral areas): Hambrunn, Schneeberg, Zittenfelden. History Schneeberg belonged to the Grand Duchy of Hesse-Darmstadt. After the Treaty of Munich in 1816 the place belonged to Bavaria. The Electoral Mainz community was assigned in the 1803 Reichsdeputationshauptschluss to the Princes of Leiningen, was mediatized in 1806 by Baden, and in 1810 was ceded to Hesse-Darmstadt. In the Hesse-Bavaria ''Rezeß'' (Frankfurt 1816), it finally passed to Bavaria. Schneeberg, Saxony
Schneeberg is a town in Saxony’s district of Erzgebirgskreis. It has roughly 16,400 inhabitants and belongs to the Town League of Silberberg (''Städtebund Silberberg''). It lies 4 km west of Aue, and southeast of Zwickau. Geography Location Schneeberg lies on the Silver Road in the upper western Ore Mountains.
