Jamie P. Schmale is a Canadian politician, who was elected to represent the riding of Haliburton—Kawartha Lakes—Brock in the House of Commons of Canada in the 2015 federal election. He was re-elected in the 2019 election. Prior to entering politics, Schmale attended Loyalist College, graduating from the Radio Broadcasting program. Schmale started his career as News Anchor and later News Director for CHUM media. He also covered news, municipal politics, and sports for 91.9 FM Radio CKLY in Lindsay, Ontario. Julia Yvonne Schmale is a German Environmental science, environmental scientist. She is a specialist in the micro-physical makeup of the atmosphere, in particular aerosols and their interaction with clouds. She is a professor at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, EPFL (École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne) and the head of the Extreme Environments Research Laboratory (EERL). She is a participant in the MOSAiC Expedition, Multidisciplinary drifting Observatory for the Study of Arctic Climate (MOSAiC) expeditions. Career Schmale studied environmental engineering at the University of Leoben, and received her master's degree in 2007 with a thesis on contaminated site remediation. The Schmale Heide (literally "Narrow Heath") is a 9.5-kilometre-long and roughly 2-kilometre-wide bar between the Baltic seaside resort of Binz and the village of Neu Mukran near Sassnitz on the German island of Rügen. It lies in the municipality of Binz and is bounded to the northwest by the lagoon of the Kleiner Jasmunder Bodden and to the east by the bay of Prorer Wiek. Formation The shape of the heavily segmented coastline of Rügen was the result of interplay between variations in the mean sea level and rebound processes following the last ice age, the Weichselian glaciation. It is believed that the region of the present-day West Pomeranian Baltic Sea coast after the last ice age glacial advance (the North Rügen-East Usedom Step) has remained ice-free and largely part of the mainland for about 13,000 years.
