Schloss Muskau
Schloss Muskau (Muskau palace) is a ''schloss'' in the Görlitz district in the state of Saxony, Germany. It is located in an extended park, the ''Muskau Park'', since July 2004 a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The building complex was developed over a long period. The present main building, called ''Neues Schloss'' (New Palace), was built in the 19th century in Neo-Renaissance style, burnt down in 1945, and after decades as a ruin, was reconstructed until 2013. Geography Muskau Park is the largest and one of the most famous English landscape gardens in Central Europe, stretching along both sides of the German–Polish border on the Lusatian Neisse. Renaissance Revival architecture (sometimes referred to as "Neo-Renaissance") is a group of 19th century architectural revival styles which were neither Greek Revival nor Gothic Revival but which instead drew inspiration from a wide range of classicizing Italian modes. Hermann, Fürst Von Pückler-Muskau
Prince Hermann Ludwig Heinrich von Pückler-Muskau (; born as Count Pückler, from 1822 Prince; 30 October 1785 – 4 February 1871) was a German nobleman, renowned as an accomplished artist in landscape gardening, as well as the author of a number of books mainly centering around his travels in Europe and Northern Africa, published under the pen name of "Semilasso". Life Pückler-Muskau was the first of five children of Count Carl Ludwig Hans Erdmann Pückler, and the Countess Clementine of Callenberg, who gave birth to him at age 15. He was born at Muskau Castle (now Bad Muskau) in Upper Lusatia, then ruled by the Electorate of Saxony. He served for some time in the Saxon "Garde du Corps" cavalry regiment at Dresden, and afterwards traveled through France and Italy, often by foot. Carl Eduard Adolph Petzold (14 January 1815 – August 1891) was a German landscape gardener. Life Petzold was born in Königswalde (Lubniewice), Brandenburg. As a child, he followed his parents in 1826 to Muskau, visiting the town's school and in 1828 the grammar school at Halle in Prussian Saxony. In 1831, he started working at the Park von Muskau of the Prince Hermann von Pückler-Muskau, who turned out to be of great influence on his later work. 1835-38 he created his first Park at Matzdorf (Silesia). In 1844-52 he received the position of court gardener in Weimar, in 1852-1872 he returned as ''Parkinspector'' to Muskau, and was, in 1852-72, Director of Parks of the Netherlands. Humphry Repton (21 April 1752 – 24 March 1818) was the last great English landscape designer of the eighteenth century, often regarded as the successor to Capability Brown; he also sowed the seeds of the more intricate and eclectic styles of the 19th century. His first name is often incorrectly rendered "Humphrey". Biography Early life Repton was born in Bury St Edmunds, the son of a collector of excise, John Repton, and Martha (''née'' Fitch). Bad Muskau (; formerly ''Muskau'', hsb, Mužakow, pl, Mużaków, cs, Mužakov) is a spa town in the historic Upper Lusatia region in Germany, at the border with Poland.
