Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald
Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald (french: Arrondissement de Brisgau-Haute-Forêt-Noire) is a (district) in the southwest of Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Fifty towns and municipalities with 133 settlements lie within the district. The district itself belongs to the region of Freiburg with the region of Southern Upper Rhine. The municipal offices are in the city of Freiburg im Breisgau which is almost entirely surrounded by Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald, but is independent of it. In addition, the council has three satellite offices in Müllheim, Titisee-Neustadt and Breisach am Rhein. Geography Location Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald covers areas which are very different in scenic character: in the Upper Rhine Plain are the Markgräflerland and its foothill zone, which is continued north of the Breisgau with the hills of Kaiserstuhl, the Tuniberg and the Nimberg. Martin Waldseemüller
Martin Waldseemüller (c. 1470 – 16 March 1520) was a German cartographer and humanist scholar. Sometimes known by the Latinisation of names, Latinized form of his name, Hylacomylus, his work was influential among contemporary cartographers. He and his collaborator Matthias Ringmann are credited with the first recorded usage of the word ''Americas, America'' to name a portion of the New World in honour of the Italian explorer Amerigo Vespucci. Waldseemüller was also the first to map South America as a continent separate from Asia, the first to produce a printed globe and the first to create a printed wall map of Europe. A set of his maps printed as an appendix to the 1513 edition of Ptolemy's Geography (Ptolemy), ''Geography'' is considered to be the first example of a modern atlas. Cartography (; from grc, χάρτης , "papyrus, sheet of paper, map"; and , "write") is the study and practice of making and using maps. Uwe Wassmer
Uwe Wassmer (born 22 January 1966) is a German former professional footballer who played as a striker during the 1980s and 1990s. Career Wassmer was born in Wehr, Baden-Württemberg. He began his career in Switzerland with FC Aarau in 1985 and spent three years with the club before joining FC Schalke 04 of Germany. After just one season with Schalke, he returned to Switzerland to play for FC Basel. He spent just one season at Basel, also, and went back to FC Aarau for the second time in his career where he was part of the side that won the Swiss national title in 1992–93. In 1993, he signed for SC Freiburg where he went on to play over 100 matches, scoring 30 goals. On 22 September 1996, while playing for Freiburg, Wassmer set a Bundesliga record in a game against Leverkusen, by scoring just 13 seconds after his introduction, making it the fastest goal ever scored by a substitute.
