''Schakels ("Connections")'' is a 1920 Dutch silent film directed by Maurits Binger and based on a play by Dutch playwright Herman Heijermans. The original movie and all copies are lost. Maurits Binger
Maurits Binger (5 April 1868 – 9 April 1923) was a Dutch film director, producer and screenwriter of the silent era. He directed 39 films between 1913 and 1922 and is considered one of the pioneers of fictional films in the Netherlands. Binger's studio and base of operations was in Haarlem, North Holland. Between 1919 and 1923 he was managing director of Anglo-Hollandia an attempt to break into the larger British market. There is a film institute in the Netherlands in his name. He is sometimes referred to as Maurice Binger. Louis Davids (born Simon David; 19 December 1883 – 1 July 1939) was a Dutch actor, singer, comedian and revue artist. He is widely considered one of the biggest names in Dutch performing arts. Biography Early years Davids was born in the Raamstraat in the infamous Rotterdam Zandstraatbuurt as the son of comedian and café owner Levie David (1857-1906) and Francina Terveen (1858-1927) in a poor Jewish family of four children. Louis's teacher, Master Thorn, was a great variety show enthusiast and passed this on to his student.

Coen Hissink
Johan Coenraad "Coen" Hissink (5 October 1878 – 17 February 1942) was a Dutch film actor of the silent era. He appeared in 25 films between 1914 and 1942. He also wrote short stories and books about controversial topics such as homosexuality, prostitution and cocaine. During the Second World War, he became a member of the resistance. He was interned at Neuengamme concentration camp in 1941 and died there in 1942. Herman Heijermans
Herman Heijermans (3 December 1864 – 22 November 1924), was a Dutch writer. Heijermans was born in Rotterdam, into a liberal Jewish family, the fifth of the 11 children of Herman and Matilda (Moses) Spiers. Painter Marie Heijermans was his sister. In the ''Algemeen Handelsblad'' daily, he published a series of sketches of Jewish family life under the pseudonym of Samuel Falkland, which were collected in volume form. His novels and tales include ''Trinette'' (1892), ''Fles'' (1893), ''Kamertjeszonde'' (2 vols, 1896), ''Interieurs'' (1897), ''Diamantstad'' (2 vols, 1903).
