Scaturiginichthys Vermeilipinnis
The red-finned blue-eye (''Scaturiginichthys vermeilipinnis'') is a tiny, critically endangered species of fish in the family Pseudomugilidae. It is the only species in its genus. The species was first recorded in 1990. It is endemic to central Queensland in Australia, where it is restricted to springs in Bush Heritage's Edgbaston Reserve. Description The fish reaches up to in length, and only males have red fins. Habitat and distribution The fish only live in shallow, slightly salty water in Edgbaston Reserve, which is owned by Bush Heritage Australia. Nature Conservation Act 1992
The ''Nature Conservation Act 1992'' is an act of the Parliament of Queensland, Australia, that, together with subordinate legislation, provides for the legislative protection of Queensland's threatened biota. As originally published, it provided for biota to be declared ''presumed extinct'', ''endangered'', ''vulnerable'', ''rare'' or ''common''. In 2004 the act was amended to more closely align with the IUCN Red List categories: ''presumed extinct'' was changed to ''extinct in the wild'' and ''common'' was changed to ''least concern''. ''Near threatened'' was introduced as an eventual replacement for ''rare'', but the latter was to be phased out over time rather than immediately abandoned. The act is administered by the state's Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). There are provisions under the act which allow landholders to negotiate voluntary conservation agreements with the EPA. Pseudomugilinae
The Pseudomugilidae, the blue-eyes, are a subfamily of atheriniform fish in the rainbowfish family Melanotaeniidae. They inhabit fresh and brackish water in Australia, New Guinea and nearby smaller islands. Blue-eyes are small fish, typically no more than in length. ''Eriocaulon'' is a genus of about 400 species commonly known as pipeworts, of monocotyledonous flowering plants in the family Eriocaulaceae. The genus is widely distributed, with the centers of diversity for the group occurring in tropical regions, particularly southern Asia and the Americas. A few species extend to temperate regions, with ca. 10 species in the United States, mostly in the southern states from California to Florida, and only two species in Canada; China has 35 species, also mostly southern.
