Scarborough Centre (french: Scarborough-Centre) is a federal electoral district in Ontario, Canada, that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada since 1979. The riding was created in 1976 from parts of Scarborough East, Scarborough West and York—Scarborough ridings. It consists of the part of the Scarborough district of the City of Toronto bounded: *on the west by Victoria Park Avenue, *on the north by Highway 401, *on the east by McCowan Road, Lawrence Avenue East and Bellamy Road North, and *on the south by Eglinton Avenue East. Scarborough General Hospital (Toronto)
The Scarborough General Hospital (officially Scarborough Health Network, General Hospital) is a major hospital in the Scarborough district of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Located northwest of the intersection of McCowan Road and Lawrence Avenue East, the hospital opened in 1956 as the first in the former township of Scarborough. History The Scarborough General Hospital was founded by the Sisters of Misericorde in 1956 as the first hospital in the borough of Scarborough. In 1998, The Salvation Army, who founded the Scarborough Grace Hospital (now known as Birchmount Hospital), took over administrative duties of the Scarborough General and formed a new hospital network known as The Scarborough Hospital as part of a proposal to the Health Services Restructuring Commission. The federal electoral redistribution of 2012 was a redistribution of electoral districts ("ridings") in Canada following the results of the 2011 Canadian census. As a result of amendments to the Constitution Act, 1867, the number of seats in the House of Commons of Canada increased from 308 to 338. The previous electoral redistribution was in 2003. Background and previous attempts at reform Prior to 2012, the redistribution rules for increasing the number of seats in the House of Commons of Canada was governed by section 51 of the ''Constitution Act, 1867'', as last amended in 1985. Scarborough—Guildwood is a federal electoral district in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada since 2004. It was created in 2003 from parts of Scarborough East, Scarborough Southwest and Scarborough Centre. This riding lost territory to Scarborough—Rouge Park and Scarborough Southwest, and gained territory from Scarborough Centre during the 2012 electoral redistribution. Dorset Park
Dorset Park is a neighbourhood in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is located in the western part of the district of Scarborough. The neighbourhood is bordered by Highway 401 to the north, Midland Avenue to the east, Lawrence Avenue to the south, and Birchmount Road to the west. Kennedy Road runs along the neighbourhood's centre north and south and Ellesmere Road runs along the centre east and west. Maryvale is a neighbourhood in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is located on the western edge of the Scarborough district, with its western border being Victoria Park Avenue. To the north it is bordered by Highway 401, to the east by Warden and to the south by railroad tracks. History The area was first settled as farmland and the neighbourhood is named after the Maryvale farm that once covered part of the area. It was an early part of Scarborough to be developed, being turned into a new suburb in the early 1950s. Wexford is a neighbourhood in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is located in the eastern part of the city, on the western end of the district of Scarborough, spanning Lawrence Avenue East between Victoria Park Avenue and Birchmount Road. There are many persons of Greek heritage in this neighbourhood. The Wexford Heights Business Improvement Area boasts 245 members and hosts an annual street festival on Lawrence. History The Church of St. Jude was erected in Wexford in 1848. It was once the Anglican church to the small village of Wexford, and survives today as a landmark in the modern urban area. The Golden Mile is a commercial district in the Scarborough district of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Situated along Eglinton Avenue East, east of Victoria Park Avenue, it was one of Canada's first model industrial parks. The original Golden Mile of Industry ran along Eglinton from Pharmacy Avenue east to Birchmount Road. The area was farmland prior to World War II with settlement by Scottish immigrants beginning in the 1820s (notably by the likes of the McCowans and Thompsons) and prior to settlements by Europeans in the late 18th century was mostly covered by forests. Ionview is a neighbourhood in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, in the district of Scarborough. It is bounded by Birchmount Road to the west, the hydro transmission corridor north of Ranstone Gardens to the north, the CNR railway to the east, and Eglinton Avenue East, Kennedy Road and the CNR railway to the south. Eglinton East
Eglinton East, historically known as Knob Hill, is a residential and commercial neighbourhood in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is bounded by Stansbury Crescent, Citadel Drive, and West Highland Creek to the north, Midland Avenue to the west, the CNR rail line, Brimley Road, and Eglinton Avenue to the south, and Bellamy Road North to the east. Eglinton East is a working-class neighbourhood with a high percentage of immigration to the area.
