Saýat District
Saýat District is a district of Lebap Province in Turkmenistan. The administrative center of the district is the town of Saýat. Found in January 1925 with the same name in Lenin Province (today Lebap), it became directly subordinate to the Turkmen SSR government following the abolishment of Chardzhuyskiy in September 1930. In November 1939, it became part of the then newly formed Chardzhou Province before its province's dissolution in January 1963, twenty-four years later. It rejoined Chardzhou again in December 1970, where it remains. On 25 November 2017, Turkmen parliament dissolved Sakar District and added its territories to Saýat District. Districts Of Turkmenistan
The districts of Turkmenistan ( tk, etraplar, sing. ''etrap'') are territorial entities below the provinces of Turkmenistan ( tk, welaýatlar, sing. '' welaýat''). They may be counties, cities, or boroughs of cities. The heads of the districts ( tk, häkim, translated as "governor" for districts of a ''welaýat'' and "mayor" for cities or boroughs of a city) are appointed by the President of Turkmenistan (Constitution of Turkmenistan, Articles 80-81). Regarding cities "with district status" ( tk, etrap hukukly), by Turkmen law, "...such cities must have population over 30,000 and be the administrative center of a province (welaýat); headed by a presidentially appointed häkim." Though this officially limits the possible number of such cities to five (the number of provinces), in reality other cities are periodically accorded the status of a district. Provinces Of Turkmenistan
Turkmenistan is divided into five regions or ''welaýatlar'' (singular '' welaýat'') and one capital city (''şäher'') with provincial legal status. They are Ahal, Balkan, Dashoguz, Lebap and Mary, plus the capital city of Ashgabat. Each province is divided into districts. Lebap Province
Lebap Region ( tk, Lebap welaýaty/Лебап велаяты from the Persian ''Lab-e āb'') is one of the regions of Turkmenistan. It is in the northeast of the country, bordering Afghanistan, Uzbekistan along the Amu Darya. Its capital is Türkmenabat (formerly named Çärjew). Parliament Of Turkmenistan
The National Council of Turkmenistan ( tk, Türkmenistanyň Milli Geňeşi) was Turkmenistan's bicameral national legislative body or parliament from March 2021 until January 2023. The upper chamber was the People's Council () and the lower chamber was the Assembly (). The National Council was created in March 2021 following election of members to the upper chamber, which in turn followed a constitutional amendment in late 2020. In January 2023 both chambers of parliament proposed to abolish the Halk Maslahaty as a legislative organ, to reform it as an independent body, and to place all legislative authority with a unicameral Mejlis. The National Council was accordingly abolished by unanimous vote of its members in a joint session of the People's Council and Assembly on 21 January 2023. Garabekewül
Garabekewül is a city in Saýat District, Lebap Province, Turkmenistan. Etymology The terms ''Gara'' ("black") and ''Bekewül'' refer to two of the clans that make up the Ersari tribe, and Atanyyazow asserts that this is the origin of the toponym. Transportation The city is located near the Amu Darya close to an eponymous rail station on the Türkmenabat-Kerki rail line. History The town is famed as the birthplace of Seyitnazar Seydi, a classical poet as well as the military commander of Soltaniyaz Beg, who had unsuccessfully rebelled against the Bukhara Emirate. The ruins of Beg's fortress is located a short distance, north of the town. Administration Garabekewül was designated a "town of urban type" as of 1940.
