Sayonara Jupiter
is a novel by Sakyo Komatsu, released as two volumes. It is a novelization of an early draft of the 1984 film of the same Japanese name, directed by Komatsu and Koji Hashimoto. The novel won the 1983 Seiun Award. Synopsis The novel is set in the future where humanity has grown to the point where Earth can no longer support all of them. As a result, humanity has begun to spread throughout space and there is now an attempt to turn the planet Jupiter into a second sun in order to make some of the other planets inhabitable. was a Japanese science fiction writer and screenwriter. He was one of the most well known and highly regarded science fiction writers in Japan. A novelization (or novelisation) is a derivative novel that adapts the story of a work created for another medium, such as a film, TV series, stage play, comic book or video game. Film novelizations were particularly popular before the advent of home video, but continue to find commercial success as part of marketing campaigns for major films. They are often written by accomplished writers based on an early draft of the film's script and on a tight deadline. Seiun Award
The is a Japanese speculative fiction award given each year for the best science fiction works and achievements during the previous calendar year. Organized and overseen by , the awards are given at the annual Nihon SF Taikai, Japan Science Fiction Convention. It is the oldest SF award in Japan, being given since the 9th Japan Science Fiction Convention in 1970. "Seiun", the Japanese word for "nebula", was taken from the first professional science fiction magazine in Japan, which had a short run in 1954. The award is not related to the American Nebula Award. Akihiko Hirata
(December 16, 1927 – July 25, 1984), born , was a Japanese film actor. While Hirata starred in many movies (including Hiroshi Inagaki's ''Samurai'' trilogy), he is most well known for his work in the ''kaiju'' genre, including such films as ''King Kong vs. Godzilla'', ''The Mysterians'', ''Terror of Mechagodzilla'', ''Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla'', and his most famous role of Dr. Daisuke Serizawa, the brilliant but disturbed young scientist in the original ''Godzilla'', released in 1954. Hirata was married to the popular actress Yoshiko Kuga from 1961 until his death. He died at age 56 in 1984 after a long battle with lung cancer.
