''Sax-a-Go-Go'' is the second album by Dutch alto saxophonist Candy Dulfer, released in 1993. It entered the US ''Billboard'' Top Contemporary Jazz Albums chart at No. 5 in February 1994, remaining on the chart for 31 weeks. The album peaked at number 77 in Australia. The album includes a version of Eugene McDaniels' Vietnam War protest song "Compared to What", and "I Can't Make You Love Me", a hit for Bonnie Raitt from her album '' Luck of the Draw'' (1991). Candy Dulfer
Candy Dulfer (born 19 September 1969) is a Dutch jazz and pop saxophonist. She is the daughter of jazz saxophonist Hans Dulfer. She began playing at age six and founded her band Funky Stuff when she was fourteen. Her debut album ''Saxuality'' (1990) received a Grammy nomination. She has performed and recorded with Hans Dulfer, Prince, Dave Stewart, Van Morrison, Angie Stone, Maceo Parker and Rick Braun and has performed live with Alan Parsons (1995), Pink Floyd (1990), and Tower of Power (2014). She hosted the Dutch television series ''Candy Meets...'' (2007), in which she interviewed musicians. In 2013, she became a judge in the 5th season of the Dutch version of ''X Factor''. ''Saxuality'' is the debut album by Dutch alto saxophonist Candy Dulfer. Some versions of the album include the worldwide hit single "Lily Was Here" with Dave Stewart. The mainly instrumental album debuted on No. 4 in the Dutch album chart and was certified Gold. The album peaked at No. 22 on the US ''Billboard'' 200, No. 27 in the UK Albums Chart and sold in excess of one million copies worldwide. Big Girl (Candy Dulfer Album)
''Big Girl'' is the third album by Dutch alto saxophonist Candy Dulfer. Before its release, she had been working mainly with Ulco Bed. But she was impressed by keyboard player Thomas Bank. This album marks the transition between the two producers and has a funkier style that tries to incorporate rap and hip hop into contemporary jazz. The album includes a collaboration with Trijntje Oosterhuis on "Funkyness" before Oosterhuis became widely known as a singer. The album is mainly instrumental. According to her official biography, the title of the album was an inside joke, referring to her father Hans Dulfer's album ''Big Boy'' and indicating that she had grown up and was in charge of her career. Roger Ball (musician)
Roger Ball (born 4 June 1944, Broughty Ferry, Scotland) is a Scottish saxophonist, keyboardist, songwriter and arranger. He is a former original member of the Average White Band (AWB). Biography Ball attended the Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee from 1962, studying architecture. While there he met Malcolm "Molly" Duncan and Alan Gorrie. The three of them relocated to London separately, but joined forces again in 1971 to form the nucleus of the Average White Band (AWB). They were later joined by Onnie McIntyre, Hamish Stuart and Robbie McIntosh, completing the original line-up. These six Scots were an unlikely group to be successful playing American styled funk, but went on to be nominated for three Grammy Awards in the Rhythm & Blues category. Leslie Coleman McCann (born September 23, 1935) is an American jazz pianist and vocalist.Feather, Leonard, and Ira Gitler (2007), ''The Biographical Encyclopedia of Jazz'', p. 448. Oxford University Press. Early life Les McCann was born in Lexington, Kentucky, United States. He grew up in a musical family of four, a brother and three sisters with most of McCann's family singing in church choirs. His father was a fan of jazz music and his mother was known to hum opera around the house. As a youth, he played the tuba and drums and performed in his school's marching band. As a pianist McCann, was largely self-taught. He explained he only received piano lessons for a few weeks as a six-year-old before his teacher died. Average White Band
The Average White Band (also known as AWB) are a Scottish funk and R&B band that had a series of soul and disco hits between 1974 and 1980. They are best known for their million-selling instrumental track " Pick Up the Pieces", and their albums '' AWB'' and '' Cut the Cake''. The band name was initially proposed by Bonnie Bramlett. They have influenced others, such as the Brand New Heavies, and been sampled by various musicians, including the Beastie Boys, Public Enemy, TLC, The Beatnuts, Too Short, Ice Cube, Eric B. & Rakim, Nas, A Tribe Called Quest, Leena Conquest, Christina Milian, and Arrested Development, making them the 15th most sampled act in history. Alan Gorrie
Alan Edward Gorrie (born 19 July 1946 in Perth) is a Scottish bassist, guitarist, keyboardist and singer. He is a founding member of the Average White Band and remains one of two original members in the group's current line-up (Onnie McIntyre being the other). History Having previously played in Forever More, Gorrie and Owen "Onnie" McIntyre formed the Average White Band in London in 1971. Molly Duncan
Malcolm "Molly" Duncan (24 August 1945 – 8 October 2019) was a Scottish tenor saxophonist and founding member of Average White Band. Career Malcolm "Molly" Duncan recorded with Ray Charles, Tom Petty, Buddy Guy, Ben E. King, Dire Straits, Bryan Ferry and many others and played live with artists including Marvin Gaye, Chaka Khan and Eric Clapton. In the late 1990s and early 2000s he collaborated with many drum and bass artists, including Intense, of which his son Dan Duncan is a member. These recordings were mostly released on the Good Looking Records label. He collaborated with other studio musicians to form Knee Deep, a funk and fusion group; and Cold Sweat and the Horny Horns. In July 2015, Malcolm "Molly" Duncan, along, with Steve Ferrone and Hamish Stuart reunited to form The 360 Band. This was in essence one half of the original Average White Band.
