Savannah Jazz Festival
The Savannah Jazz Festival is an annual celebration of jazz music located in Savannah, Georgia, United States. It takes place for eight days during the last full week in September each year. Events and performances take place in various venues throughout the city, culminating in three days at the historic Forsyth Park. Admission to the event is free. The Festival is organized by the Coastal Jazz Association (CJA) with funding provided by the City of Savannah Department of Arts and Culture and Historical Resources, as well as other sponsors and CJA members. Coastal Jazz Association In 1979, Teddy Adams, Ben Tucker, Randall Reese, Tom Glaser, and Ken Palmer started the Telfair Jazz Society. This went on to become the Coastal Jazz Association (CJA) in 1981. Ligel Lambert
Ligel Lambert (born May 20, 1982) is a Haitian-born American interdisciplinary artist, entrepreneur, educator and graphic designer who primarily works in painting, collage, printmaking, assemblage (art) and sculpture. He is best known for his colorful, Fauvist, rhythmic and abstracted interpretations of musicians, interpretations of sounds and musical themed paintings. Education and military service Ligel (pronounced Lee - Jeal) received a Master of Fine Arts from RMIT University (RMIT School of Art), Melbourne in 2013. He received a Master of Education degree in Curriculum & Instruction from the University of West Florida, Pensacola in 2021. Ligel also holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design. Forsyth Park
Forsyth Park (formerly known as the Military Parade Ground)''Charles Seton Henry Hardee's Recollections of old Savannah'', Martha Gallaudet Waring, ''The Georgia Historical Quarterly'', JSTOR (1929), p. 34 is a large city park that occupies in the historic district of Savannah, Georgia, United States. The park is bordered by Gaston Street to the north, Drayton Street to the east, Park Avenue to the south and Whitaker Street to the west. Ben Tucker
Benjamin M. Tucker (December 13, 1930 – June 4, 2013) was an American jazz bassist who appeared on hundreds of recordings. Tucker played on albums by Art Pepper, Billy Taylor, Quincy Jones, Grant Green, Dexter Gordon, Hank Crawford, Junior Mance, and Herbie Mann. He was born in Tennessee. As bass player in the Dave Bailey Quintet in 1961, he wrote the instrumental version of the song " Comin' Home Baby!", first issued on the album ''Two Feet in the Gutter''. Bob Dorough later wrote a lyric to the song, and the vocal version became a Top 40 hit for jazz singer Mel Tormé in 1962. Tucker released the album ''Baby, You Should Know It'' ( Ava, 1963) with Victor Feldman, Larry Bunker, Bobby Thomas, Ray Crawford, Tommy Tedesco, and Carlos "Patato" Valdes. Grayson Stadium
William L. Grayson Stadium is a stadium in Savannah, Georgia. It is primarily used for baseball, and is the home field of the Savannah Bananas of the Coastal Plain League collegiate summer baseball league. It was the part-time home of the Savannah State University college baseball team from 2009 to 2011. It was also used from 1927 until 1959 for the annual Thanksgiving Day game between Savannah High School and Benedictine Military School. Known as "Historic Grayson Stadium" it was built in 1926.
