Savanna High School
Savanna High School (SHS) is a public high school in the Anaheim Union High School District (AUHSD), located in the city of Anaheim, California in the United States. Savanna was established in 1961 and is one of eight comprehensive high schools within the district. The school currently services the Northwest Anaheim region and southeast Buena Park. History Savanna was the second of three new high schools opened in response to the city's rapid postwar growth, between Magnolia and Loara, all built by the Beckner Construction Company. The school was not completed until November 1961, and for the first quarter, students double-sessioned at Magnolia's campus. The school originally served grades 10 through 12, and did not enroll freshmen until 1980. The students of the school voted in 1961 to adopt the "Rebels" as its nickname over the "Surfers." Stephen Hillenburg
Stephen McDannell Hillenburg (August 21, 1961 – November 26, 2018) was an American animator, writer, producer, director, and marine science educator. He is known for creating the Nickelodeon animated television series ''SpongeBob SquarePants'', on which he served as the showrunner for the first three seasons of the show, and which has become the fifth-longest-running American animated series. Born in Lawton, Oklahoma and raised in Anaheim, California, Hillenburg became fascinated with the ocean as a child and developed an interest in art. John Lasarus Williams (29 October 1924 – 15 June 2004), known as John L, was a Welsh nationalist activist. Allen Shellenberger
Allen Shellenberger (September 15, 1969 – August 13, 2009) was an American drummer who played in the band Lit. Early life and career Shellenberger was born to Paul Shellenberger and Connie James. He founded Lit in 1988 in Fullerton, California alongside brothers A. Jay and Jeremy Popoff and bassist Kevin Baldes. Before settling on the name Lit, other names that the band went by were Razzle and Stain. He remained a member of the band until his death in 2009. Illness and death Lit announced on May 5, 2008 that Shellenberger was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Richard Wayne Ownbey (born October 20, 1957 in Corona, California) is a former Major League Baseball pitcher. He played in parts of four seasons in the majors, between and , for the New York Mets and St. Louis Cardinals. Bernice Orwig
Bernice Jane Orwig (born November 24, 1976) is an American water polo goalkeeper who won a silver medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics. Early career Bernice graduated from Savanna High School in Anaheim, California, in June 1994. There she began her career in water polo playing as goalie for the Savanna Rebel Water Polo team. College career Orwig played for USC. As a senior in 1999, she won the NCAA. That same year, she won the Peter J. Cutino Award as the top female college water polo player in the United States. Gregory Inman Mathews (born May 17, 1962) is an American former professional baseball pitcher. He played all or parts of five seasons in Major League Baseball between 1986 and 1992 for the St. Louis Cardinals and the Philadelphia Phillies. Mathews is an alumnus of Savanna High School in Anaheim, California, and of California State University, Fullerton. He played summer collegiate baseball for the Hazlet Elks of the Saskatchewan Major Baseball League in 1986 prior to playing in the majors. During his rookie year Greg put up a 3.65 ERA in 145.1 innings. His 11 wins in 1986 were the most by a Cardinal rookie since Brooks Lawrence had 15 in 1954; Luis Arroyo also had 11 wins as a rookie in 1955. Alan Thomas Hrabosky (; born July 21, 1949) is an American former professional baseball pitcher. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1970 to 1982 for the St. Louis Cardinals, Kansas City Royals, and Atlanta Braves. As of 2022, he is the color commentator on Cardinals regular-season broadcasts on Bally Sports Midwest.
