Savalen
Savalen is a lake in Innlandet country, Norway. The lake is located along the border of the municipalities Tynset and Alvdal. The lake sits about west of the village of Tynset and about north of the village of Alvdal. The river Sivilla, which connects the lake Savalen and the large river Glomma, is regulated and exploited by the Savalen hydropower station. A tourist resort is located at the northern end of the lake, with facilities for winter sports. The skating stadium is the highest elevation skating venue in Norway. This venue saw two speed skating world records set by Eric Heiden, a world record in 1,000 m in 1978 and a world record in 3,000 m speedskating in 1979. Tynset
Tynset is a municipality in Innlandet county, Norway. It is located in the traditional district of Østerdalen. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Tynset. Other villages in Tynset include Fådalen, Fåset, Telneset, Tylldalen, and Yset. The municipality is the 43rd largest by area out of the 356 municipalities in Norway. Tynset is the 167th most populous municipality in Norway with a population of 5,581. The municipality's population density is and its population has increased by 0.3% over the previous 10-year period. General information The parish of ''Tønsæt'' was established as a municipality on 1 January 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt law). Sivilla
Sivilla is a river in Innlandet county, Norway. The long river runs through the municipalities of Tynset and Alvdal, even forming part of the municipal boundary for part of its course. The river is the primary outflow of the lake Savalen, and ends up in the river Glåma. The river begins at the southeastern side of the lake Savalen at a dam. The river's water is regulated at the dam, where the water is exploited by the ''Savalen hydropower station''. Eric Heiden
Eric Arthur Heiden (born June 14, 1958) is an American physician and a former long track speed skater, road cyclist and track cyclist. He won an unprecedented five individual gold medals, and set four Olympic records and one world record at the 1980 Winter Olympic Games. Heiden was the most successful athlete at those Olympic Games, single-handedly winning more gold medals than all nations except for the Soviet Union (10) and East Germany (9). He is the most successful Winter Olympian from a single edition of any Winter Olympics. He delivered the Athlete's Oath at those same 1980 Games. His coach was Dianne Holum. Heiden is an icon in the speed skating community. His victories are significant, as few speed skaters (and athletes in general) have won competitions in both sprint and long-distance events. Alvdal is a municipality in Innlandet county, Norway. It is located in the traditional district of Østerdalen. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Alvdal. Other villages include Barkald, Plassmoen, and Strømmen. The municipality is located to the south of Tynset, north and west of Rendalen, north of Stor-Elvdal, and east of Folldal. Tronfjell
Tron (sometimes spelled Tronden, Tronfjell, or Trondfjell) is a prominent mountain in Innlandet county, Norway. The tall mountain lies on the border of Alvdal and Tynset municipalities, but the peak lies entirely in Alvdal. The mountain lies just to the northeast of the village of Alvdal and just northwest of the village of Tylldalen. There is a toll road to the summit that is open in the summers. The road was built while installing a broadcasting antenna in the 1960s, being Norway's second highest road. The Indian philosopher Swami Sri Ananda Acharya (1883-1945) lived on the mountain for large periods of his life. Hydropower (from el, ὕδωρ, "water"), also known as water power, is the use of falling or fast-running water to Electricity generation, produce electricity or to power machines. This is achieved by energy transformation, converting the Potential energy, gravitational potential or kinetic energy of a water source to produce power. Arne Garborg
Arne Garborg (born Aadne Eivindsson Garborg) (25 January 1851 – 14 January 1924) was a Norwegian writer. Garborg championed the use of Landsmål (now known as Nynorsk, or New Norwegian), as a literary language; he translated the Odyssey into it. He founded the weekly '' Fedraheimen'' in 1877, in which he urged reforms in many spheres including political, social, religious, agrarian, and linguistic. He was married to Hulda Garborg. He was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature six times. Life and career Garborg grew up on a farm named Garborg, near Undheim, in Time municipality at Jæren in Rogaland county. He grew up together with eight siblings. Although he was to become known as an author, it was as a newspaperman that he got his start. Speed skating is a competitive form of ice skating in which the competitors racing, race each other in travelling a certain distance on Ice skate, skates. Types of speed skating are long track speed skating, short track speed skating, and marathon speed skating. In the Olympic Games, long-track speed skating is usually referred to as just "speed skating", while short-track speed skating is known as "short track".
