Saturday Night Out
''Saturday Night Out'' is a 1964 British comedy-drama film directed by Robert Hartford-Davis and starring Heather Sears, John Bonney, Bernard Lee, Erika Remberg, Francesca Annis, Margaret Nolan and David Lodge. The screenplay concerns a trio of merchant seamen on a night out in London. The film was an independent production shot at Shepperton Studios and on location around London. The film's set were designed by the art director Peter Proud. Premise A trio of merchant seamen and several passengers disembark from their ship when it arrives at the Pool of London and go out for a Saturday night's entertainment in the city. Robert Hartford-Davis
Robert Hartford-Davis (born William Henry Davis, 23 July 1923 – 12 June 1977) was a British born producer, director and writer, who worked on film and television in both in the United Kingdom and United States. He is also sometimes credited as Michael Burrowes or Robert Hartford. Biography Hartford-Davis was born in Ramsgate, Kent in 1923 as William Henry Davis; he changed his name on becoming a television director in 1955. His television career encompassed drama, comedy and entertainment shows. Bob, as he liked to be called, started his career as an electrician in a South London film studio, where he went on to develop his skills as a cameraman. Shepperton Studios
Shepperton Studios is a film studio located in Shepperton, Surrey, England, with a history dating back to 1931. It is now part of the Pinewood Studios Group. During its early existence, the studio was branded as Sound City (not to be confused with the Californian recording studio of the same name). History 1930s–1960s Shepperton Studios was built on the grounds of Littleton Park, which was built in the 17th century by local nobleman Thomas Wood. The old mansion still stands on the site. Vera Day (born 4 August 1935) is an English film and television actress. She was born in London just before the war and grew up in Forest Gate, East London. Early career Leaving school at 15, she had various jobs before finding employment in a hair salon. Modelling for hairstylists, she became a full-time model. One day she saw an advertisement in a theatrical paper for showgirls, so taking time off work and with the smallest bikini she could find, she attended the auditions. Colin Campbell (17 January 1937 – 1 March 2018) was an English actor. Life His best-known role was the lead in ''The Leather Boys'' in 1964, in which he plays a bored married man who starts hanging out with a biker friend—who, he belatedly realises, is gay. Campbell started off as a child actor, and played John in the 1950s BBC radio Children's Hour adaptation of ''Worzel Gummidge'', and the title role in BBC TV's ''Huckleberry Finn'' in 1952. The Pool of London is a stretch of the River Thames from London Bridge to below Limehouse. Peter Proud (born Ralph Priestman Proud, 6 May 1913, Glasgow – 1989, London) was a British film art director. He made a major contribution to wartime camouflage and deception operations in the Western Desert, especially in the siege of Tobruk. Early career In 1928, Proud left school at age 15 and started work at the Elstree film studios on Alfred Hitchcock films including ''Murder!'' (1930) and ''Rich and Strange''. In 1932 he joined Gaumont British as assistant designer to Alfred Junge. The British Film Institute's Raymond Durgnat described him as an "ace production designer". In 1935 he moved to Gainsborough Pictures, and in 1936 he became an art director at Warner Bros., where he worked on Michael Powell's film ''Something Always Happens''.
