Sattar Sawut
Sattar Sawut ( ug, ساتتار ساۋۇت; ; born November 1948) is a former Uyghur politician in Xinjiang. Sattar was the former director of the Xinjiang Education Department. He was arrested in 2017. Later, he was regarded by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) as a " two-faced person" who supported the independence movement through editing textbooks. Sattar Sawut was sentenced to death for his role in the publication of school textbooks said to incite interethnic hatred. Five other Uyghurs were convicted in the same case. Shirzat Bawudun ( ug, شىرزات باۋۇدۇن; ; born June 1966) is a Uyghur People, Uyghur politician and the former head of the department of justice in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, China. In July 1988, Shirzat graduated from the Northwest University of Politics and Law. In 1994, Shirzat joined the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). In April 2021, Shirzat was Death sentence with reprieve, sentenced to death with a two year reprieve on separatist charges. According to the Xinjiang Higher People's Court, Shirzat had received bribes, worked with East Turkestan Islamic Movement, terrorist groups and engaged in separatist activates. This included publishing school textbooks with the intent to "split the country" and incite ethnic hatred. The East Turkestan independence movement ( ug, شەرقىي تۈركىستان مۇستەقىللىق ھەرىكىتى; zh, s=东突厥斯坦独立运动) is a political movement that seeks the independence of East Turkestan, a large and sparsely-populated region in northwest China, as an ethnostate for the Uyghurs, Uyghur people. The region is currently administered as a Provinces of China, province-level subdivision of the People's Republic of China (PRC), under the official name Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR).
