Satisfact is an American post-punk band formed in 1996 in Washington State, abridging the post-hardcore movement with the nascent post-punk revival of the 21st century. ''The Unwanted Sounds of Satisfact'' is the debut album by American post-punk band Satisfact. Released on September 10, 1996 through Up Records, the album was produced by the musician Steve Wold, better known by his stage name Seasick Steve. The album's sound, which is derived from the post-punk, new wave and gothic rock, has been regarded as an early example of the new wave revival genre. Critical reception Allmusic critic Blake Butler thought that the album sounded "like the Smiths playing on Jupiter in 2150 with Morissey's vain sass taken away" and stated: "As this is the band's first album, you hear a more stripped-down and straightforward of what they would later doon future albums." Butler also described the record as "a strong album of dreamy android pop with a 1984 edge." ''Satisfact'' is the eponymous second studio album by American post-punk band Satisfact. Co-produced by John Goodmanson, it was released on March 18, 1997 through K Records. The album features a continuation of the band's trademark post-punk sound of "screechy guitar sounds, hypnotic keyboard effects, robotic rhythms and monotone vocals." Critical reception AllMusic critic Mike DaRanco wrote "Suave, laid-back and borderline poppy (but not in the obnoxiously happy sort of way), Satisfact have the ability to accomplish all of this without coming close to boring the listener to death." DaRanco further stated: "They even manage to successfully incorporate a theremin on the track "Demonstration"—that alone is worth giving this record a good review." Up Records
Up Records was a Seattle based independent record label founded in 1994 by Chris Takino and Rich Jensen. Some of the label's best known artists were 764-Hero, Built to Spill, Modest Mouse, Quasi and Tad. Chris Takino died of leukemia in 2000. The label was owned and managed by his partner Pete Ritchey until it was licensed to Sub Pop about 2018. The last update to the Up Records website was in 2007. Octant was an experimental noise rock duo formed in 1999 in Washington State. They recorded two full-length albums, released on Up Records. The duo was led by multiinstrumentalist and instrument designer Matt Steinke, with Tassany Zimmerman primarily on synthesizer. Their live show included an electromechanical automated drum machine designed and built by Steinke. Red Stars Theory is an American rock band from Seattle, Washington. History The band was formed in early-1995 when James Bertram was looking for someone to play guitar with and found Tonie Palmasani (guitar/vocals), Jeremiah Green (drums/percussion/vocals) and Jason Talley (bass guitar/vocals). Later in 1995, the group released a 10-inch on Deluxe Records, the "Slow Curve/Castle Rock" seven-inch and the LP/CD ''But Sleep Came Slowly''. The seven-inch and LP were released by the RX Remedy label, a division of Sub Pop. Seth Warren was asked to play violin on ''But Sleep Came Slowly'' and has since been a member of the group. Vells is an indie rock band from Seattle, Washington. The band was formed by Tristan Marcum and Ryan Kraft along with Modest Mouse drummer Jeremiah Green after his brief departure from the group in 2001. After releasing their self-titled debut EP on Seattle'Luckyhorse Industriesin 2003, Vells signed with the experimental label imputor? and released their debut full-length '' Flight From Echo Falls'' on September 7, 2004. After the release of Flight From Echo Falls' and the subsequent departure of two of its founding members; Guitarist Ryan Kraft and Bassist Adam Howry, the band reformed with a new DIY approach to recording. Lync
Lync was a 1990s post-hardcore band from Olympia, Washington. Formed in 1992, Lync was composed of vocalist/guitarist Sam Jayne, bassist/vocalist James Bertram and drummer Dave Schneider. Lync's distinctive sound of distortion, cryptic lyrics, and irregular tuning created a chaotic, visceral sound which drew comparisons to Fugazi, Unwound, Hush Harbor, The Fall, and Drive Like Jehu. The band went on to release singles on Magic Pail, Candy Ass, Landspeed, and K Records. Jayne and Bertram played on Beck's album ''One Foot In The Grave'' in 1994, right before releasing Lync's one full-length album on K, '' These Are Not Fall Colors''. Lync then disbanded in late 1994. Jeremiah Martin Green (March 4, 1977December 31, 2022) was an American musician best known as a founding member and drummer of the indie rock band Modest Mouse from 1993 to March 2003, and again from May 2004 until his death in December 2022. Early life Jeremiah Martin Green was born on March 4, 1977, in Oahu, Hawaii, while his father was stationed there in the Army. He grew up in Moxee, Washington, a few miles outside of Yakima. His family moved to the Seattle area in 1989. He had an older brother named Adam. His father was an alcoholic who was abusive to Green; he later apologized and reconciled with his son. Green took drumming lessons for three months in his early teens but was uninspired by his teacher. He immersed himself in the Seattle music scene, joining a band and attending concerts at night.
