Satan Triumphant
''Satan Triumphant'' (russian: Сатана ликующий, translit. Satana likuyushchiy) is a 1917 silent film in Russian directed by Yakov Protazanov. The film has not survived in its entirety; the endings of both episodes are missing. Some of the film's inscriptions were lost. They were restored thanks to the help of Rolf Lindfors, the Curator of the Swedish Film Archives, who found the film's inscriptions in the Swedish Film Censorship Archive. It also became known that in 1919 the film was forbidden by the Swedish censorship to be shown in the country. Plot Pastor Talnoх furiously urges the flock to fight temptations, but he himself becomes a victim of temptation. In his house appears Satan, pushing the hero to theft and spiritual fall. Yakov Alexandrovich Protazanov (russian: Яков Александрович Протазанов; 4 February ( O.S. 23 January ) 1881 – 8 August 1945) was a Russian and Soviet film director and screenwriter, and one of the founding fathers of cinema of Russia. Natalya Andrianovna Lisenko (russian: Наталья Андриановна Лисенко, 10 August 1884 – 7 October 1969), also known as Nathalie Lissenko, was a Russians, Russian actress who was active during the silent era. Biography Natalya Andrianovna Lisenko was born on 10 August 1884 to Andrew Lisenko (1851–1910), a physician. She had an older brother, Yuriy Lisenko (1881–1958). Some sources list Lisenko's birth date as 1886. She was the niece of the Ukrainians, Ukrainian composer Mykola Lysenko. The idea of making a deal with the devil has appeared many times in works of popular culture. These pacts with the Devil can be found in many genres, including: books, music, comics, theater, movies, TV shows and games. When it comes to making a contract with the Devil, they all share the same prevailing desire, a mortal wants some worldly good for their own selfish gain, but in exchange, they must give up their soul for eternity. Generally when Satan is depicted in these works, he is represented as a red-skinned man with horns or pointed ears on his head, hooves or bird-legs, a forked tail or one with a stinger, and a pitchfork.
