''Sarungale (The Kite)'' ( si, සරුංගලේ, italic=yes) is a 1979 Sri Lankan Sinhala drama thriller film directed by Sunil Ariyaratne and produced by Y.M. Karunathilake. It stars Gamini Fonseka and Farina Lai in lead roles along with M. Abbas] and Wimal Kumara de Costa. Music composed by Victor Ratnayake. It is the 413th Sri Lankan film in the Sinhala cinema. The film deals with the inter-ethnic, communal violence between Sinhalese and Tamils. It demonstrate the ambivalence of the Sinhala socio-political establishment towards the Tamil people. The film won several awards at OCIC film awards ceremony including Best Script. Farina Lai won the Live Talent Award, while Wimal Kumara de Costa and Gamini Fonseka won Special Jury Award at the ceremony. The film also won the Best Actor award and Best Supporting Actress award at 10th Sarasaviya Film Awards held on March 29, 1980, finished fifth with 27978 votes. Kala Keerthi Sembuge Gamini Shelton Fonseka () (21 March 1936 - 30 September 2004 as ගාමිණී ෆොන්සේකා), was a Sri Lankan film actor, film director and politician. Often considered as the Greatest Actor in the Sinhala Cinema, Fonseka dominated the cinema in 1960s and 1970s to bagged Best Actor award in multiple times. Apart from acting, he was the Deputy Speaker of Sri Lanka Parliament from 1989 to 1994 and Governor of the North-Eastern Province from 1995 to 1998. Wimal Kumara de Costa (4 July 1948 – 20 November 2016 as විමල් කුමාර ද කොස්තා inhala was an actor in Sri Lankan cinema. One of the most popular comedy artists in 1980s and 1990s, he started cinema career with character roles in art films where he later moved to comedy roles in cinema.
