Sarnia—Lambton (provincial Electoral District)
Sarnia—Lambton is a provincial electoral district in southwestern Ontario, Canada. It elects one member to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario. The riding was created in 1999 from Sarnia and from part of Lambton when ridings in Ontario were redrawn to match federal ridings. From 1999 to 2007, the riding consisted of the municipalities of Sarnia, Point Edward, St. Clair and Sarnia 45. For the 2007 election, it gained the municipalities of Petrolia, Plympton-Wyoming, Oil Springs and Enniskillen. Bob Bailey (politician)
Robert W. Bailey (born ) is a politician in Ontario, Canada. He is a Progressive Conservative member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario representing the riding of Sarnia—Lambton. He has been an MPP since 2007. Background Bailey was born in Petrolia, Ontario in the township of Enniskillen. He worked as a contract coordinator for Nova Chemicals in Sarnia. Bailey is also a Freemason. Politics Prior to entering provincial politics, Bailey served as a councillor for Enniskillen, Ontario. Lambton (electoral District)
Lambton was a federal electoral district represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1867 to 1882. It was located in the province of Ontario. It was created by the British North America Act of 1867. The County of Lambton consisted of the Townships of Bosanquet, Warwick, Plympton, Sarnia, Moore, Enniskillen, and Brooke, and the Town of Sarnia. The electoral district was abolished in 1882 when it was redistributed between Lambton East and Lambton West ridings. It was represented for those 15 years of operation by Alexander Mackenzie, of the Liberal Party of Canada. 2007 Ontario Electoral Reform Referendum
A referendum was held on October 10, 2007, on the question of whether to establish a mixed member proportional representation (MMP) system for elections to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario. The vote was strongly in favour of the existing plurality voting or first-past-the-post (FPTP) system. David Boushy (born January 25, 1932) is a politician in Ontario, Canada. He served as a Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario, Progressive Conservative member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1995 to 1999 and is currently a City and County Councilor for Sarnia-Lambton. Caroline Di Cocco is a former politician in Ontario, Canada. She was a member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario representing the riding of Sarnia—Lambton for the Ontario Liberal Party from 1999 to 2007 and was a cabinet minister in the government of Dalton McGuinty until her defeat in the 2007 provincial election. Lambton (provincial Electoral District)
Lambton was an electoral riding in Ontario, Canada. It was created in 1867 at the time of confederation. It was located in southwestern Ontario and included the town of Sarnia. In 1875 it was split into two separate ridings, Lambton East and Lambton West. Just before the 1967 election it was reconstituted largely as a rural constituency. Another riding, Sarnia was also created to represent the growing urban centre. In 1996, all provincial riding was reduced from 133 to 103 to be harmonized as their federal counterparts. Sarnia 45, Ontario
The Aamjiwnaang First Nation (formerly known as Chippewas of Sarnia First Nation) is an Anishinaabe (Ojibwe) First Nations Band located on reserve land by the St. Clair River, three miles south of the southern tip of Lake Huron. The reserve is located across from the United States border from Port Huron, Michigan, and is a result of treaties that were negotiated with the Crown in the 1820s. There are approximately 2,000 band members with about 850 living on the reserve. Their heritage language is Ojibwe. The word ''Aamjiwnaang'' (am-JIN-nun) means "meeting place by the rapid water", which describes the surrounding communities.
