Precious Bane
''Precious Bane'' is a historical romance by Mary Webb, first published in 1924. It won the Prix Femina Vie Heureuse Prize in 1926. Synopsis The story is set in rural Shropshire during the Napoleonic Wars. It is narrated by the central character, Prue Sarn, whose life is blighted by having a cleft lip and cleft palate. Only the weaver, Kester Woodseaves, perceives the beauty of her character, but Prue cannot believe herself worthy of him. Her brother Gideon is overridingly ambitious to attain wealth and power, regardless of who suffers while he does so. Gideon is set to wed his sweetheart Jancis, but he incurs the wrath of her father, the cruel and scheming self-proclaimed wizard Beguildy. Sarn, Bridgend
Sarn is a village (and electoral ward) in Bridgend County Borough, Wales, about north of Bridgend and which lies just east of the confluence of the Ogmore and Llynfi rivers. It is located to the east of Aberkenfig, south of Brynmenyn, and south-east of Tondu. It is around 15 minutes' walk from the M4 and the McArthurGlen Group Bridgend Designer Outlet. Description Sarn is part of the community of St Bride's Minor, being the main shopping centre for the area, including a post office, supermarket and number of independent shops. Although the Welsh Government classes Sarn as the urban area north of Bridgend which encompasses Aberkenfig, Bryncethin, Brynmenyn, Sarn, Tondu and Ynysawdre and has a total population of approximately 10,000, Sarn itself only has a population of 2500. Sarn, Powys
Sarn is a small village in Powys, Wales. The village lies on the A489 road east of Newtown. There is a bus service through the village, with buses to Newtown, Churchstoke and Montgomery. Less than a mile to the west is the smaller settlement of Llancowrid, also on the A489, at . The hamlets of City and Bachaethlon are from Sarn, on the minor road up to the Kerry Ridgeway. The historic parish church is Holy Trinity, part of the Ridgeway Benefice, in the Clun Forest deanery of the Church of England's Diocese of Hereford. The village also possesses a Baptist church. Amélie Sarn-Cantin (born 4 March 1970) is a French author, comic book writer and translator. In 2006, she took over Geneviève Huriet's role as the author of the ''Beechwood Bunny Tales'' series, with ''Qu'as-tu fait, Mistouflet ?'' and ''L'album photo des Passiflore''. In April 2002, Sarn published her first novel for adults, ''Elle ne pleure pas, elle chante'' (). She has written numerous books for youth.
