The Sarasaviya Best Lyricist Award is presented annually by the weekly ''Sarasaviya'' newspaper in collaboration with the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited at the Sarasaviya Awards Festival. Although the Sarasaviya Awards Ceremony began in 1964, this award was introduced much later. Sarasaviya Awards
''Sarasaviya Awards'' (Sinhala:සරසවිය සම්මාන) is an award bestowed to distinguished individuals involved with the Sinhala cinema, each year by the Sarasaviya weekly newspaper in collaboration with the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited (Lake House), Sri Lanka in recognition of the contributions made by them to the Sri Lankan film industry. The Sarasaviya ceremony is one of the oldest film events in Sri Lanka. The awards were first introduced in 1964. The Sarasaviya Awards have been often referred to as the Sinhala Cinema industry's equivalent to The Oscars. Mahagama Sekera (Mahagamage Sekara) ( Sinhala:මහගම සේකර / මහගමගේ සේකර ) (7 April 1929 – 14 January 1976) Sri Lankan poet, lyricist, playwright, novelist, artist, translator and filmmaker. He is considered to be a significant figure in Sinhalese poetry and literature. Sekara is best remembered as a poet and songwriter with several of his works even becoming popular songs in Sri Lanka. ''Binaramalee'' ( si, බිනරමලී) is a 1969 Sri Lankan Sinhala drama thriller film directed and produced by Mudalinayaka Somaratne as his maiden directorial venture. It stars Swarna Kahawita and Wickrama Bogoda in lead roles along with Piyadasa Gunasekera, Shanthi Lekha and D. R. Nanayakkara with supportive roles. Music composed by Somadasa Elvitigala.
