Sarangadhara (1937 Film)
Sarangadhara ( ''Telugu'': సారంగధర, lit. beautiful-body-carrier) is a 1937 Telugu-language film directed by P. Pullayya under Star Combines. Banda Kanakalingeswara Rao and Santha Kumari donned the lead roles supported by Addanki Srirama Murthy as Rajaraja Narendra. It is based on the epic of the same name by Gurajada Apparao. The movie was a runaway hit, and in the aftermath of its success Pullayya married Santha Kumari. Banda Kanakalingeswara Rao
Banda Kanakalingeswara Rao (20 January 1907 – 3 December 1968) was an Indian actor known for his works in Telugu theatre, and Telugu cinema. He was the member of Kendriya Sangeet Natak Akademi since 1952 and Andhra Pradesh Sangeet Natak Akademi since 1957. He promoted Kuchipudi dance along with ''Vedantam Parvatisam'' in 1957 helped the government in the establishment of ''Siddhendra Kalakshetra'' in Kuchipudi village. This institution was later merged with the Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University in 1989. He wrote many articles to take this art form to the public. He joined All India Radio in 1956 and broadcast many drama and playlets. He founded Shiva temple and Vedic School in his native village. He founded College for Theatre arts in Eluru in 1938 and trained many students and art lovers. Gurajada Apparao
Gurajada Venkata Apparao (21 September 1862 – 30 November 1915) was an Indian playwright, dramatist, poet, and writer known for his works in Telugu theatre. Rao wrote the play ''Kanyasulkam'' in 1892, which is considered as the greatest play in the Telugu language. ''Sarangadhara'' is an epic story during the reign of Rajaraja Narendra. Gurajada Apparao wrote the story in long poetic form in English and published in "Indian Leisure Hour" in 1883. Santha Kumari
Santha Kumari (born Vellaala Subbamma; 17 May 1920 – 16 January 2006) was an Indian musical artist and actress. She was married to the Telugu film director and producer P. Pullayya. Early years Vellaala Subbamma was born in Proddatur town, (Kadapa District, Andhra Pradesh) to Sreenivasa Rao and Pedda Narasamma. Her father was an actor and her mother was a classical music singer. Santhakumari learned classical music and violin under the guidance of Professor P. Sambamurthy and was a classmate of D. K. Pattammal. Rajaraja Narendra () was the Eastern Chalukya king of the Vengi kingdom in South India. Rajaraja Narendra established the city Rajahmahendravaram.
