Sarah Treadwell
Sarah Treadwell is an artist, architect and academic in New Zealand. She was the first female full-time academic staff member in the School of Architecture and Planning at the Waipapa Taumata Rau the University of Auckland in New Zealand. Her academic career spanned from 1981 to 2017, her year of retirement. Treadwell was Head of School at the School of Architecture and Planning from 2009 to 2012. Career Treadwell graduated from the University of Auckland in 1976, before practicing in London. She gained her registration as an architect in 1978. In 1980, the Women's Institute of Architecture wrote an open letter to the head of the University of Auckland's School of Architecture and Planning, Allan Wild, pointing out that the lack of women lecturers was alienating female students. The following year, Treadwell became the first woman to be appointed to the faculty, although she remained the only one for ten years, until Rosemary Scofield's appointment. Megan Rule is a New Zealand architect. She was a recipient of a National Association of Women in Construction Excellence Award in 2016. Biography Rule studied architecture at the University of Auckland, graduating in 1992. Anthony Treadwell
Anthony Lawrance Treadwell (27 February 1922 – 15 September 2003) was an early member of the Wellington Architectural Centre and an accomplished modernist architect, architectural educator and painter. His architectural work has been published in numerous articles in ''New Zealand Home and Building'', the ''Arts Year Book'', the ''Journal of the N.Z.I.A.'' and the Wellington Architectural Centre's ''Design Review''. Early career Treadwell was born in 1922. His architectural career began as a draughtsman in the Air Force before working in the Architectural Division of the Ministry of Works, and private practice. His designwork included factories, office buildings, flats, houses and churches, with examples of his domestic architecture including the Etherton House in Miramar, the Atkins House in Upper Hutt and the Blumhardt House of 1957. Tina Barton
Christina Joy Barton (born 1958), known as Tina Barton, is a New Zealand art historian, curator and gallery director. She is currently director of the Adam Art Gallery. Education Barton completed a Masters of Art in art history at the University of Auckland in 1987. Her thesis topic was the history of post-object art in New Zealand between 1969 and 1979. Career After completing her MA, Barton joined the Auckland Art Gallery as a research assistant. She worked as Assistant Curator at Auckland Art Gallery from 1988 to 1992, and as Curator of Contemporary New Zealand Art at the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa from 1992 to 1994. Lillian Chrystall
Lillian Jessie Chrystall (née Laidlaw; 1 March 1926 – 24 February 2022) was a New Zealand architect. She was the first woman to receive a national New Zealand Institute of Architects award. Biography Chrystall was born in the Auckland suburb of Herne Bay on 1 March 1926, one of three children of businessman Robert Laidlaw and American-born Lillian Viola Irene Laidlaw (née Watson). One of her brothers was Lincoln Laidlaw, who founded the New Zealand toy manufacturing company, Lincoln Industries. She was raised in Herne Bay, and was educated at Bayfield School and Auckland Girls' Grammar School. Chrystall studied architecture at the University of Auckland and after graduating was appointed the School of Architecture's first female instructor.
