Sara Rún Hinriksdóttir
Sara Rún Hinriksdóttir (born 14 August 1996) is an Icelandic basketball player who currently plays for Keflavík and the Icelandic national basketball team. She played college basketball for Canisius in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. She is a four time Icelandic Female Basketball Player of the Year. Sara started her career with her hometown team of Keflavík where she won the Icelandic championship and Icelandic Cup in 2013. After her college career, she joined Leicester Riders where she won the WBBL Trophy in 2020, while also being named the WBBL Trophy MVP, and the WBBL Cup in 2021. Playing career Early years Born in Reykjavík, Sara started her senior career with Keflavík in 2011. She was named to the Úrvalsdeild All-first team for the first half of the 2012-2013 season, at the age of 16, after averaging 15 points and 9 rebounds in the first fourteen games. Icelandic Women's Basketball Cup
The Icelandic Women's Basketball Cup (Icelandic: Bikarkeppni KKÍ), also known as VÍS bikarinn for sponsorship reasons, is an annual basketball competition between clubs in Iceland. It is Iceland's first-tier cup competition, and is not to be confused with Iceland's former second-tier cup competition, the Company Cup. History and format The first edition of the Icelandic Women's Cup championship took place in 1975, and was won by Þór Akureyri. All the rounds are played with a single game knockout format. The final four and the finals are played on a single weekend. Finally, the winner of the Icelandic Cup championship, or the runner-up if the same team wins both the cup and national championship, will then face the winner of the Úrvalsdeild kvenna championship in a single game to determine the winner of the Icelandic Supercup championship in the beginning of the next season. The Games of the Small States of Europe (GSSE) is a biennial multi-sport event, launched by the Republic of San Marino, organized by and featuring the National Olympic Committees of nine European small states since 1985. The Games are held at the end of May or beginning of June and feature competition in nine Summer Olympic sports. Valur Women's Basketball
The Valur women's basketball team, commonly known as Valur, is a basketball team based in Reykjavík, Iceland. It is part of the Valur multi-sport club. In 2019, it won its first national championship. Recent history Valur played in the 2018 Úrvalsdeild finals, losing to Haukar 2-3. In April 2019, Valur won its first ever national championship when it beat Keflavík in the Úrvalsdeild finals 3-0. The team opened the 2019–20 season by defeating Keflavík, 105-81, in the annual Icelandic Super Cup. Siena Saints Women's Basketball
The Siena Saints women's basketball team (formerly the Siena Indians) represents Siena College in Loudonville, New York, United States. The NCAA Division I program competes in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. History Siena began their first year under varsity level in 1974 after four years as a club team. They joined Division I in 1983 and the MAAC in 1989. They have made five appearances in the postseason, with one being in the NCAA Tournament (2001), three in the WNIT (1999, 2002, 2003), and one in the WBI (2015). The Snæfell women's basketball team, commonly known as Snæfell, is the women's basketball department of Ungmennafélagið Snæfell, based in Stykkishólmur, Iceland. History Snæfell's women's team first played in Úrvalsdeild kvenna during the 2008–09 season after winning Division I the previous season with a perfect record. The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC, ) is a collegiate athletic conference affiliated with NCAA Division I.
